I was looking through your portfolio, and all I could think was, "wow - how did he/she DO THAT?!?"

I especially liked the lotus t-shirt design, the elephant, and the flame silhouettes on the wall in the background of Ridemaker2. Nice work!

We make Merkins,mostly from old beer cans,wool and refrigerator parts.

The earth scene was created using only a 2D map of the earth and some effects.

The other scene went from paper to the computer, then each item was separated, colored, and then animated--that took the most time.

This was actually my first real motion graphic project... I've never done another one but I hope to use the skills I learned to create informational videos on very complex philosophical concepts... creating animation really assists the learning process.

are you using Maya or 3d Studio Max? I have those programs as well but haven't used them.

I use both, but most of that is Maya.

A lot of it was made in Second Life as well.

So, you said you used to make money with Second Life. How does that work? Do you create virtual things and sell them? If so, are they "things" like accesories and clothing? Or virtual places? How does that work?

Having just done some minimal stuff in GIMP, I can only imagine how involved and time consuming this is. Thanks for explaining.

You can sell anything you make in Second Life for the in game currency.

Then you can sell the currency for USD $.

You can make anything you imagine, anything.

I made a lot selling club items like virtual club lights, speakers, DJ gear, dance machines.

Eventually I got contracted to build whole islands for a bunch of companies.

Just wanted to say, "Thanks!" to everyone who responded to this thread. I had no idea there were so many other etsy-ians here and so much general talent - both in 2-D and 3-D mediums.

Have to go burn some screens and finish making bread, but I'll check back periodically.

There has got to be money in making items for niche fetish groups, I would imagine. Just knowing how many guys have unfulfilled fetishes in real life and how popular that site is... (Sorry if that's OT)

No doubt. The "adult" market is certainly very lucrative there. Several people have made millions. You should check it out.

It's not really a website, but a game world.

You have to use a program to access in world.

There is a search function in game.

It's very elaborate and probably for a while you just want to get used to the controls and building tools.

I'm usually around lately, re-building my shop.

i teach metal-smithing, wood working and stone carving at a small, crafty-ish school. in my "spare" time, have been building a house. solo...(from the ground up with no help).

over the years i have made all kinds of cool things...usually practical...ranging from<<<: as a kid...made a bike out of discarded and found parts, made a kite that could lift me off the ground in a good wind...to>>>, (not too practical)...have woven my clan's tartan on a table loom, made a full sized log cabin quilt and log cabin pillows, singing bowls and bells,
native american stone fetishes and 'peace' pipes, 'totem' poles (real name translates to spirit poles)...even built a custom dune buggy and motorcycle...once.
needless to say...i have a lifetime's collection of tools and know how to use every one of them...

I did watercolors for years, I've sold most of them.
Currently I am into making collages ... I call it expression art.
Most of the collages are upbeat and very positive however I have a huge one I am working on made of 2008 presidential campaign signs.
That one isn't so positive. I am not sure I will ever display it in public. Kind of afraid I could red flag myself.

lol...i have sold stuff too...but never liked selling for some reason....takes the love out of creating for me...
did you ever try layering the watercolors in washes called veils? or called veil painting?

I'm not so much into crafting, but sometimes make some quirky repurposed things.
I took some cool old yo-yo's and turned them into chimes of a sort. A neighbor commented how much she liked it right after we moved in.
A very large painting wasn't right for the walls in the new place, so I used it as a headboard. Looks great.
Other than that, I buy cheap remnants of material- upholstery type, and use them as slip covers, throws, curtains.
