A Pentagon official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said no plans had been made to protect antiquities from looters, as opposed to ensuring that historical sites were not caught up in the fighting itself.
But the official rejected charges in a letter from nine British archaeologists, published in the Guardian yesterday, that private collectors were "persuading the Pentagon to relax legislation that protects Iraq´s heritage by prevention of sales abroad".
The American Council for Cultural Policy, a New York-based coalition of about 60 collectors, dealers and others, had received "no special treatment," the official insisted, despite reports that members of the group met with Bush administration representatives in January to argue that a post-Saddam Iraq should have relaxed antiquities laws.
Last night the group denied that it was lobbying for plundered Iraqi treasures to be traded. "The ACCP will seek _ to find ways to shut off the import of objects that may have been taken from Iraq, and to close the domestic market in such material," Ashton Hawkins, the organisation´s president, said.

The University of Chicago had been a mainstay in the region (Iraq) for years. I´ve been down to the Oriental Museum and have seen the cylinder ceals and Babylonian relics there. Depicitons of stars and planets and fish G-ds with regalia that of the Pope are carved on these tablets. The Babylonians had a understanding of Astronomy that was even equal to our own but without the same technology. It
must be something like a stargate since Baby Bush and his henchmen seem so adament to stay fighting for "Democracy". A pity though if whatever they come across is used for destruction but maybe just like the hydrogen bomb whoever finds it first will be sure to do their worst they´d always done before.

I keep forgetting that it was Amenhotep III who found Queen Tiye, and that she was mother to Ikhnaton and Tut. I´m not sure it matter though because incest was standard proceedure in these royal classes much of the time.

The Dogon tell the legend of the Nommos, awful-looking beings who arrived in a vessel along with fire and thunder. The Nommos, who could live on land but dwelled mostly in the sea, were part fish, like merfolk (mermaids and mermen). you know, i was at a family reunion just after the war had started and people were talking about the iraq war and i stated pretty much this same thing, that we invaded at least in part for the ´occultic objects´... well everyone around was immediately taken aback, and just as quickly they dismissed my idea... interesting stuff...

Watched a documentary on the CBC a while back about this issue...it was called "Robbing the Cradle of Civilization".
Seems a lot of these artefacts are showing up in Israel in the hands of antiquity dealers. They interviewed one acquisitive elite collector that had wall-after-wall of indescribably beautiful objects. He said he likes to just look at them.
No wonder. These items are occult power objects that go back all the way to Babylon.
These things rightfully belong to all of humanity, but in this insane world, they always wind up at the end of the money trail.
