The anti-viral and anti-bacterial properties of Lomatium dissectum have attracted the interest of herbalists and Naturopathic physicians who are utilizing it in the treatment of todays most difficult viral diseases. It may be part of a protocol in the treatment of Hepatitis-C, Influenza, HIV, AIDS, Chronic-fatigue, Pneumonia, Bronchitis, Herpes simplex, Sinusitis, and common Colds. The root of the Lomatium dissectum plant is a natural medicine with extensive traditional use by the Native Americans of the Pacific Northwest and Northern Nevada where it grows. It was used primarily for upper respiratory infections, although a great many other uses have been noted. When the influenza epidemic hit Northern Nevada in 1918, Ernst Krebs MD of Carson City was surprised to see the local Washoe people recovering, and he inquired as to their medicine. They called it "Toh-sa" or "Do-sa". Dr. Krebs called it Balsamea, due to its biting odor of balsamic resins. Botanists named it Leptotaenia dissecta until 1942 when it was renamed Lomatium dissectum, a slightly different classification. //... Anonymous Coward User ID: 1040484 United States 09/22/2010 10:50 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | yes. christ i hope this isnt more wide spread. The thought of what could have caused me to become so ill has really been bothering me but not wanting to sound like a paranoid nitwit I have refrained from saying anything. Started about 3 weeks ago. I'm in South Carolina. I'm fairly young (36), I never get sick and I'm 7 days into a 10 day script of very powerful antibiotics without feeling much relief. Also a ton of mucus that is more than unpleasant to deal with. Nose, throat and chest. My doc thought I may have pneumonia when she listened to my lungs. She recommended a full chest scan but I refrained and promised to call back on Tuesday (2 days ago) if I was feeling significantly better but I'm holding out to finish these last 3 doses before I do so. If I have to go back in, I will insist on a VOC test. I drink only filtered water from my berkey which should remove all the VOC's so my guess would be that its in the air supply if the test were to come back positive. My husband has just started with the deep chest coughs this week as well. And he is another that never gets sick. It has had me concerned. Please anyone else who is experiencing symptoms please reply with location, symptoms and how long its been going on. Thanks for the links on the whooping cough and herbal remedies. I will check them out. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 1104869 United States 09/22/2010 11:07 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Monday morning I started coughing and weezing and I rarely get sick - negative blood -- so this is rare for me. Sunday night though my hubby and I went four wheelin in the country and through fields. All the farmers were out cutting the corn and beans. I'm sure this is why I'm having coughing fits now and runny nose. There was just an awful haze in the air these past couple of weeks due the harvest going on. I'm in Northern Indiana. It's also been very very dry. Hard telling what's floating in the air. I'm taking B Complex vitamins, a multi vitamin, Esther C, and swig of my Elderberry juice every now and then. thankfully my sore throat is gone and it's not getting any worse but it hasn't gone away yet -- although I've only had it now for three days so I'm lucky. Oh has for the whooping cough outbreak -- my theory is that in Indiana they now require 6th grade - 12th graders to get the vaccination -- I think the unintended consequences are that it is actually causing an outbreak as those vaccinated expose others to the disease. Just my thoughts though. I found it queer that it rarely came up in the news and all of a sudden it is now required in Indiana schools and then all of these articles and breaking news stories come out about right when school starts when all the kids were required to get the shot. Or maybe TPTB intentially made it news to scare parents into getting the vaccine and validating the law that now requires the shot. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 1106825 United States 09/22/2010 11:13 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Yes. I have had the same thing all summer. First, a deep cough started in chest. Then, throat...constant clearing...had a LOT of mucous in both areas. I felt like I was drowning in the stuff. I think it is allergic reaction to something...and, high summer humidity. I went to doc after fed up with it..he did a chest xray which was normal and to take Mucinex (which did not work). I decided to go to health store and bought a bottle of cough herbal medicine. Works wonders!! and finally all the mucous has cleared up and only a little morning cough once in awhile. I also take over the counter non-drowsy anti-histimine, Loratadine 10 mg, any brand will work fine, when coughing/funny nose, acts up more than usual. This is the best stuff... Anonymous Coward User ID: 1091573 United States 09/23/2010 12:55 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I am in Indiana. My family is fine now but we went through this last year. Same time, mid-September, my younger kids missed two weeks of school. Whole neighborhood had it and it took months to get rid of. Schools were sending kids home by the dozens. Cough sounded similar to a seal. Kids would cough so hard they would vomit. Doctors didn't know what it was, said maybe whooping cough. Antibiotics didn't work. They gave us breathing machines/treatments and steroids. Steroids seem to be the only thing that worked. |

Calare User ID: 1093567 United States 09/23/2010 01:34 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Sounds like what I dealt with earlier this year. I was sick with it for about 2 months. First the Dr. said it was bronchitis and treated me for that. Then when I was still sick, suddenly it was allergies and treated me for that. Finally, we went back to bronchitis. I was treated with steroids, antibiotics, breathing treatments in additional to what I call "puffers". Lots of good rest and fluids at home. Little by little I got better, but it's been about 4 months now and I'm still prone to coughing and wheezing. My lungs feel damaged. I easily get out of breath just doing simple things like running up a flight of stairs. This is some seriously nasty stuff and I think it's due to all of the over prescribing of antibiotics (and idiots that don't take the full course). I think we've bred some seriously resistant stuff that the Doctors don't want to admit to...
