Why do Socialistic countries like Canada, and most of those of Europe, have a better quality of life and are generally happier than those in the U.S.?

I went camping and met a couple from Canada. They would not agree with your statement, especially when it comes to health care.

Every survey in the world lists the "happiest people" as those from socialistic countries.

I'm Canadian. Not from Alberta or the Prairies. From BC - which is full of "socialists".

Healthcare in Canada is bad. I got injured at work with stuff in my eye and sat in the ER for two hours without any doctor looking at me. What happened? I walked three blocks to the an eye clinic as I made an appointment with them minutes before entering ER.

Canadian healthcare might be "free" (technically it isn't) but what good is free if your dead? My mother went into the hospital feeling queezy, they gave her medication and then she has a heart attack at the hospital and dies.

Free healthcare FTW - death panels, if you're older than 50 we'll kill you to save money.

The reason why is because we are not fully socialist or communist-yet. The free market part is what makes it good, but the quality of life here has steadily been declining since around 1990. Respondents who came from 3rd world countries would think this is paradise as violent crime is not that bad, food is plentiful, it is a huge country,they can go to doctors instead of witchdoctors, there are not many animal predators or mosquito/waterborne diseases, etc.

Also, it is fairly easy to start a business here, government regulation is starting to tighten the noose,but their is still a chance for go getters.

I have talked to immigrants ( a lot who own businesses) and they say how could you fail in a country like this? You can go bankrupt, get welfare,and keep trying until something works. Most will work their ass off to make something, because they are more "hungry" for it.

It is not sunshine and lollipops for everyone though.

I'm an American, although right now I'm living in Canada.

Let me tell you something....The United States IS indeed socialist. Overall, the quality of life here in Canada is better, period. I'm not saying that there aren't little things I miss about home, but overall, life is calmer, more peaceful, more productive and more lucrative here.

Please trust me when I tell you that I wish this want so, but it really is a better life here. The US isn't whst it used to be. :(

They're hardy industrious honest and principled people which means that very few take money from the government just because they can. And even those who are totally dependent spend their time contributing to the overall quality of life in the country. Not much gansta action in those countries.

i pay a hell of alot of tax for which i expect certain services. if i sat around and drank all day then got the services... that would be socialism.

Subjects of socialists countries know they have no rights, and so make the best of it - or they are just ignorant to the fact that they are slaves of the government.
This is why the USA was the top nation for generations, people were allowed to be free. Now, in the last generation or so, Americans are losing their rights and are beginning to wake up to this reality, which is causing them to be disgruntled. They don't like being slaves.
