Re: This is outrageous! Hidden tax on home sales in "Healthcare bill" 3.8%!!
There seems to be a lot of talk about this hidden tax but every review I read does not pinpoint what the name of the health care law is nor where in that law this tax is mentioned. Can anybody give the law name and the page this so-called tax is mentioned?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1109815

Which is the exact reason someone here called for a citation, the "chapter and verse" so to speak of where this is alleged to be set forth.

It's hidden or done in such a way that makes it hard to see what the Left is creating until it is too late.

An example is the 1099 and tax that it will produce. For every 600.00$ transaction, the law will make sure that the government will get it's cut. Don't follow the law, you go to jail. And that was in the health care plan.

Now everyone when you sell your home..the government now gets a piece of that to "redistribute"... 3.8%!!

Every 100,000. home will now give $3,800. to Uncle Sam!!

[link to www.canadafreepress.com]

You should really do your research before you post something to scare people.
Q: Does the new health care law impose a 3.8 percent tax on profits from selling your home?

A: No, with very few exceptions. The first $250,000 in profit from the sale of a personal residence won’t be taxed, or the first $500,000 in the case of a married couple. The tax falls on relatively few — those with high incomes from other sources.

The truth is that only a tiny percentage of home sellers will pay the tax. First of all, only those with incomes over $200,000 a year ($250,000 for married couples filing jointly) will be subject to it. And even for those who have such high incomes, the tax still won’t apply to the first $250,000 on profits from the sale of a personal residence — or to the first $500,000 in the case of a married couple selling their home.

Re: This is outrageous! Hidden tax on home sales in "Healthcare bill" 3.8%!!
Checked on Snopes and got the same bs. Here's the problem:

A. "No, with very few exceptions." This is what they ALWAYS say to begin with. The 'exceptions' always broaden over time, i.e., social security taxes (to begin with they weren't ever supposed to be over 1%...lol!)

The second part of this is equally UNFAIR. "The tax falls on relatively few - those with high incomes from other sources." Well, maybe the OTHER SOURCES that your parent(s) inherited. In my case, the parent worked like a dog for all his life, inherited a 500,000K home. Of course, when he dies and tries to pass it on, his heirs will pay the 3.8% tax. Fair? HARDLY. AND, btw, what NEW GOVERNMENT ENTITY, will DECIDE how hight the incomes are and what 'other sources' are? Yeah, let's let the gubment decide.

No matter how hard you try to make a NEW TAX all right...IT JUST ISN'T! During this THE SECOND RECESSION (remember, the first recession ENDED in 2009!!!) is it really time to ADD NEW TAXES??????

You need to deduct $500,000 Capital gains deduction first.
Whatever is left over is taxed at 3.8% only if your normal
gross income is over $200,000.

Boy, I got to do your thinking for you too?

The ACT being cited by the FactCheck is the ‘‘Health Care
and Education Reconciliation Act of 2010’’., a.k.a, as HR 4872 of the 111th Congress.

Still no proper citation is given so that others can go quickly check and see what they are talking about so as to judge for themselves what it is saying. The media (nearly all of them) love to avoid boring their readers with such things as proper citations for study by their readers.

From the linked article from FactCheck, I really like this line: "The law itself is couched in highly technical language that only a qualified tax expert can fully grasp."

Re: This is outrageous! Hidden tax on home sales in "Healthcare bill" 3.8%!!
Outrageously stupid. What do homes have to do with health care? While I recognize that Obama needed to reform the broken health care system, the bill that was finally passed is a a total cop out and is mostly to the benefit of special interests, insurance companies and pharmaceutical companies. All the while he was stating that it is not a tax increase, even though it turns out that the bill contains many tacked on tax increases, and it creates a required fee to the insurance companies, which is by definition a tax. America needed health care reform, and Obama's intentions were good yet a person cannot really be happy with the cowardly way that the democrats handled this bill. I guess that's politics.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1064000

I have always wondered about the use of this term: "Special Interests" What makes some interest a "Special Interest"? If 51% of the people have an interest in something is it then a Special Interest or a Non-Special Interest? If a minority and interest in somethind does that interest become a "Special Interest"? How about if one person only has an interest in a particular thing is that then a "Special Interest"? The term has become completely useless to provide any meaning that allows for an actions to be taken with any intelligent application of purpose.

The term is now complete a political buzz word, of sloganism that serve no other purpose that to numb the applicaiton of thinking.

first off...a big thumbs down for people who purposely report lies about new laws...

but..i still think this is bullshit...

and chances are somewhere down the road , they will start to lower the profit amounts allowed to citizens...so that one day you may only be allowed to profit $50,000 tax free..and all the rest gets taxed at 6% ...

sad...it really is.

Odd. I read the bill and didn't see this in it.
Can I get a citation please?

Yes, Please.

Bottom of page 33 of the RECONCILIATION Bill, here: [link to frwebgate.access.gpo.gov]

And it does say the tax falls on "net gain ... attributable
to the disposition of property."
That would include the
sale of a home
-- all Accountants are advising their clients as such.

I don't know how Realtors have been getting such a fat commission for so long. Do real estate agents get such big commissions in other countries?
