Anonymous Coward User ID: 905924 United States 09/28/2010 06:49 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I took the quiz. A bunch of them are about the Bible or Christian beliefs in general. Quoting: ToSeekWhich quiz. I took one this morning that was posted by CNN - only 10 questions, only about 5 relating to Christianity, one related to Catholicism, which Protestants probably wouldn't know or care about and several related to Protestantism/Reformist which Catholics probably wouldn't know or care about. |

HillbillyHippie User ID: 1113429 Canada 09/28/2010 07:00 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Sad, but if they don't know any of those questions that concerned their own faith then I would suppose that neither we nor they could truthfully call them Christians. How can you profess to believe a faith if you don't know the basics of what you are supposed to believe? Come'on... You can't call yourself a Christian if you don't know the names of the 4 gospels or whether or not the Golden Rule is one of the Ten Commandments... Well, I suppose you can call yourself anything, but it doesn't mean you actually are what you claim to be. My suspicions would be that if anyone is calling their self a member of any faith and they got the questions about their faith wrong, that they are merely identifying with that faith for political or traditional reasons and they don't honestly believe any of it. How could you claim to believe in something you don't even know? You can't, and be honest about believing it anyway. The Great Commission of Christianity is to preach the Gospel. How can you practice a faith built on preaching the Gospel if you don't even know the titles of the books which testify to the Gospel? I'd say that not knowing the titles of those Gospel accounts of the life of Jesus would be fairly good evidence that the individual does not know the Gospel and therefore can neither preach it nor believe it. God is my best friend and my drinking buddy. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 905924 United States 09/28/2010 07:02 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | How many atheists could answer them? Quoting: Goetia 810909Actually if you believe the study, many more. I wasn't surprised, as a Christian. There are plenty of "Christians" out there who don't know much about what they believe let alone other religions, which is what the test I saw was primarily about. Also, there are many true Christians who know about Christianity - but would not study other religions - because - well, what's the point...they're Christian. However, many atheists have studied a whole bunch of religions and have determined that they don't believe any of it. I'm a Christian that finds other cultures "intersting", so I've looked at some stuff from most other religions. I made 80% on the test that I saw. Missed a question on Judaism, which was incorrect on the test and later I saw that other people caught the same error centered around the difference between our calendar and the Jewish calendar. The other one I missed was a Christianity question but not a "Bible" question - had to do with evangelists, which I don't really study them. I'm more into the Bible and my own personal relationship. Got all the ones on Hinduism, Buddhism and Islam correct. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 1105577 United States 09/28/2010 08:06 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | First of all, the title is: Pop Quiz: Survey Tests Americans on Religion Religion is VERY different than being a Christian. 32 questions about a variety of faiths. The questions ranged in complexity from the name of the Islamic holy book to the century that the Mormon religion was founded. Americans, on average, got only 16 answers right. Quoting: I'm not Muslim, nor Mormon, nor Catholic...so why would I know all there is to know about these faiths? But I took the quiz, here are my results: You answered 13 out of 15 questions correctly for a score of 87%. The 2 questions I got wrong were: ~ What was the name of the person whose writings and actions inspired the Protestant Reformation? I said John Wesley. The answer is Martin Luther. ~Which one of these preachers participated in the period of religious activity known as the First Great Awakening? I said Charles Finney. The answer is Jonathan Edwards I was never taught about the First Great Awakening. But it's an interesting subject which I look forward to reading about. Nor did I learn of the Second Great Awakening. As for the Protestant Reformation, I was knowledgeable about Luther, but do have a problem with his theology concerning Israel and the Jews. He was vehemently anti-semitic, and that's why he promoted sunday worship over Sabbath worship. I do not see this as Reformation, I see it as just more division within the Body of Christ. |

The Agnostics and the Atheists scored the highest. The Latino Catholics scored the lowest. The Protestants didn't do well enough to brag about... ...interesting. ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Eschewing Obfuscation |
