So my doctor wants me to go on statin drugs until the day I die.
My cholesterol levels came back, and they were a little high, but not too bad.

But the good doctor filled out a risk assessment form, and I end up a high risk to have a heart attack. Thus the statins.

But, other than being penalized slightly by having a somewhat high cholesterol levels, the main reason I'm in the danger zone is I am 61 years old, and my dearly departed mother had a significant stroke before the age of 60.

Being 61 gets me 11 penalty points, and my mother having a stroke before 60 causes my penalty points to double and thus vaults me into the heart attack danger zone.

If I was younger and my mother hadn't had a stroke, my score on this risk assessment would be fine.

So I'm not going on the statins, but I am going to amp up my exercise program in order to reduce the "bad" cholesterol.
My diet is already very good.

Would you go on the statins, to play it safe? Or would you gamble, and see if getting fit does the job?

You say your diet is good; yet I am skeptical. 'Good' is not always what people think.

I'd stay off the statins. Messed with my liver and penis. 6 years on Zocor.

I eat a very high fiber diet, with lots of fruits and vegetables. I cook from scratch 98% of the time so I can control how much sugar and salt gets in my food (almost none).

I eat junk food about once a month at most.

My mother's doctor insisted she go on statins.

She did.

She's dead.

Get Heart and Body Extract it will fix you up. I was told the same thing. I am 50 never smoked but I could not walk from my office to my truck with out stoping for air. After a few weeks I could see a big change. Now I can walk anywhere and feel like I am 25 again.

If you will do some research, you will find in your own back yard the fix grows. Many weeds that grow right under our noses have many of the natural properties of chemical compounds we take.

Weight loss is covered under either Clover, Dandelion, or Plantain. My sister is an RN and she is eating her yard. I call her a goat, but she is off all her meds now not even blood pressure & she lost about 8 pounds without trying. She also found what she was taking in capsule form online and ordered it as winter is coming fast.

Worth looking into. Anything is better than man made complex chemical compounds.

I know you don't know me but please get the Heart and Body Extract. I don't sell it and I have nothing to do with the company. It saved my life and all things will start working like they should. A 2 month supply will cost you about $100.00 and it will take a few weeks before you see any change but you will be young again. Just try it you will be glad you did.

I would never take almost any of their patent medicine statins included.
They have a few things which work, and the rest just make people worse off.
Bunch of barbaric drug pushers.
I would take DHA/EPA as these have been shown to reduce the melting point of the sludge which forms in the veins.
This way the exercise and sweats will actually rid one of the plaque.

You're right to be skeptical, at least to get a 2nd opinion and research alternatives. I don't trust doctors either. I question their practice. Most of them seem to just want to push pills. Very little liability in writing up a script and I think these drug companies kick back to them.

The idea that I should stop eating all animal products is interesting to me because I stopped doing that at the age of 58.

We will see what comes of that.

Take Cinnamon Capsules. They have many health benefits. I get mine at Sams Club.

“Research on cinnamon has pointed to its efficacy in maintaining favorable blood glucose levels and reducing serum cholesterol in people with type 2 diabetes,” said lead researcher Dr. Richard Anderson from the USDA. “This is the first time we have seen the positive effects of cinnamon on blood pressure levels, a common co-factor to diabetes and one of the risk factors associated with cardiovascular disease.”

All you have to do is followthis diet and walk 30 min 5 times a week.

eat a primarily vegetarian diet

avoid prepared processed foods; avoid all fast food

prepare meals yourself

eat non-oily type fish, i.e. cod, not salmon

eat lean ground turkey on occasian

eat a small steak once a week

eat green leafy vegetabels: romain lettuce, fresh spinach

eat at least 2 pieces of fresh fruit a day

eat fat-free milk, cottage cheese, cheese, and sour cream

eat fat-free icecream treats; see skinny cow products

eat meat substitutes by morningstar farms

eat tofu if you like it

increase your intake of fresh garlic

consume high fiber whole grain bread

eat vegetable pasta

eat brown rice

eat alot of beans; black beans are best

no butter; eat heart smart buttery spread

no eggs; eat eggbeaters

reduce your alcohol intake; preferably limit it to one or two glasses of red wine anytime you drink

eat oatmeal for breakfast every morning (instant is okay)

increase your intake of raw almonds and avocadoes

This diet has worked for my husband for two years.

Statins nearly killed his liver and kidneys.

His doctor was amazed that this diet and walking 30 min 5 times a week dramatically lowered my husband's cholesterol level and significantly lowered his triglycerides.

Ask your doctor if they went on an all expenses paid 'seminar' to Aruba or Bahamas to 'learn about' statin drugs so they could over-prescribe them.

health care for profit is fun isn't it?

really - just cut out all meat and dairy - lose the statins and I guarantee within 3 months your doctor will not be able to recommend statins in any good conscience.

My blood test ran a bit high about 3 years ago so my doctor ordered up a prescription. I said no way I was going to start that stuff based on one test. Sure enough another test 3 months later was below the limits. Another test last month showed even more improvement.
