Anonymous Coward User ID: 1061930 United States 10/06/2010 02:05 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I doubt any of the OP's post is true. The only way you can be called up to active duty is if you are in the reserves or the ready reserves. Quoting: UNThreddedIf you is in an active reserve unit, then it is plausible, but I seriously doubt he is in the ready reserves, for someone who has been discharged only remains on that list for around 6 years, not 21 years. Wrong! Unbeknownst to many, after your discharge from military service, you are subject to recall for up to 8 years from the date of discharge on your DD-214... I learned this during the desert storm engagement as I received a notice that I may be recalled... Never received a second letter though... Mostly correct. Depends on your enlistment contract. I enlisted for 8 years, almost 4 were active. That left 3 and some change, that I was on inactive reserve. I got re-called for Desert Storm, but it ended before I processed back in. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 774690 United States 10/06/2010 02:13 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | My wife just got done reading an email she got from her cousin. He is a sheriffs deputy in Michigan. After 21 years of of being out of the military he has received word from the Navy that he is required to return to active duty immediately. He has to go for his physical tonight. Quoting: thewatchmenHe has to be at a meeting with the Navy at 5:30 this morning and they are sending him for his physical tonight. Now I'm not trying to be an alarmist but this seems very strange to me. My wife's cousin is 46 years old. He was an MP in the Navy, Spent the last 21 years as a Sheriff and now he is being called back to active duty. WHY????? I am retired military(Army MP). The Navy does not have MP's...they have SP's...so I call BS on this. |

Monkeyfister User ID: 1066270 United States 10/06/2010 02:23 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I know for CERTAIN FACT that Navy is making all of its Recruiting Goals. They are "sandbagged" through the next year. No need to recall. Recalls are not happening. Second, In the Navy, they are called Masters-At-Arms, not MPs. There is NO shortage in the MAA field at this time. Matter of fact, prospects for that Rate are being turned away, and encouraged to look at other Rates. Third, the only people over 35 that Navy is accepting are Chaplains, and persons in under-manned Medical Niche Specialties. Forth, the period for Reserve Recall is only seven years. There are THOUSANDS of others that Navy can/will recall before going THAT far down the lists. But, there is no Recall. Fifth, if Navy really needed to up-tempo, it could easily utilize excess space at Great Lakes, and start pushing Boots through to A-Schools. That is not happening, either. Thread fail, OP. No recall occurring. Sorry to be the one to nail down the coffin lid on this one. --mf "I'm the bride at every funeral, I'm the corpse at every wedding..." --Brother Theodore ... and don't blame me-- I voted for Bob Barr in 2008. Bipolar is a degenerative condition, you don't get well from it, treated and managed yes but not cured. For God sake, it runs in families just like diabetes. This of course if the Army wants a creative killing machine, they better watch out, the officers might start disappearing in very unique ways. |
