Re: WARNING!! SHIT IS ABOUT TO HIT THE FAN!! SERIOUSLY
I doubt any of the OP's post is true. The only way you can be called up to active duty is if you are in the reserves or the ready reserves.

If you is in an active reserve unit, then it is plausible, but I seriously doubt he is in the ready reserves, for someone who has been discharged only remains on that list for around 6 years, not 21 years.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1121566

This not necessarily true depending on the job you once held in the military. I have known 2 people in my life who held jobs in the missile silos during their military service and BOTH have been subject to recall at any point in time. One held a position of the highest clearance that exists strictly because he helped install the electronics and the other was trained to live in the silo command center alone and how to deal with the possibility of being down there for years guarding and protecting the silo from intruders.

The one who held the high clearance has recently developed Alzheimer's VERY conveniently after going around town bragging about how the military has taken care of him for most of his adult life. When asked for proof he would whip out a credit card that no one had ever seen before and go on about how the military per the government bought him his house and land and that he was allowed to buy ANYTHING he wanted with that credit card with no questions asked. When my husband asked him why would the gov. allow you to do this he explained that his clearance no longer exists and he is one of only 2 men who hold it because he installed the electronics in the silo's (all of them) and that the military could call him into service at any point in his life as long as he had his faculties.

He told my husband that he was willing to do this for the military because he believed in protecting America and SIGNED the paperwork that made this legal.

My own dad got recalled after 10 years out of the military due to major bullshit. He had been medically discharged due to a damaged back and it had been 10 years that he had been out fighting like crazy for his benefits and after 2 back surgeries. THEY decided he had not been medically unfit for duty and MADE him go back in. We moved to Norfolk Virginia for one full summer and my dad then sent us back to New Mexico while he continued to fight his reinstatement to the military. It took him 4 or 5 years but he finally won and came back home.

You are correct AC, there are some "Specialty" tracts within any branch that have longer than normal recalls (EOD, Nuke Techs, etc..). Military Police/ Security Forces is not one of them, OP is making crap up and he knows it...

He was more than a flunky then. My uncle was in the CIA and you can't really leave. Your cousin was in special ops or has some field of specialization and maybe needs to train someone else in it. You don't know much about his position. Only specialists are called back.

From ED TV (1999)

I feel that Ed (TV) is the apotheosis of a prevailing American syndrome. It used to be that someone became famous because they were special. Now people are considered special just for being famous. Fame, itself, is now a moral good in this country. It's its own virtue.

Re: WARNING!! SHIT IS ABOUT TO HIT THE FAN!! SERIOUSLY
My wife just got done reading an email she got from her cousin. He is a sheriffs deputy in Michigan. After 21 years of of being out of the military he has received word from the Navy that he is required to return to active duty immediately. He has to go for his physical tonight.

He has to be at a meeting with the Navy at 5:30 this morning and they are sending him for his physical tonight. Now I'm not trying to be an alarmist but this seems very strange to me.

My wife's cousin is 46 years old. He was an MP in the Navy, Spent the last 21 years as a Sheriff and now he is being called back to active duty. WHY?????

I am retired military(Army MP). The Navy does not have MP's...they have SP's...so I call BS on this. bsflag

I understand you are more then likely X military and I am equally sure that you know all about the protocol for the military. OK? Great! Now that we have established your ego, lets establish the fact that I know this guy personally and he would never lie about this. He's telling the truth and I think instead of trying to figure out weather or not I'm lying we should be very concerned that this is actually happening. This is very scary and real. Something is about to happen and they need as many boots on the ground as they can get.
 Quoting: thewatchmen

OK, give us the Sheriff's Name. No harm can come from that as he is a public servant and it would be a matter of public record.

This way we can easily verify your story. No reason you can't give us the name of a Sheriff.

Put up or shut up is all I got to say.

Neighbor in the Army was just called up today. There was alot of excitement as he was called at work and had to rush home and tell his wife and family. He has to report to base by 11:00 p.m. tonight. He told me the call up officer was quite serious and borderline frantic during the call. His wife is a mess now due to this unexpected deployment. I am 65 miles west of Philadelphia.

Wrong!

Unbeknownst to many, after your discharge from military service, you are subject to recall for up to 8 years from the date of discharge on your DD-214...

I learned this during the desert storm engagement as I received a notice that I may be recalled... Never received a second letter though...

Is or has he been reserve? Normally, after you retire and per the contract that is signed, you have an 8 year span of inactive service from the day you retire. That means in those 8 years after you retire, you can be called back active duty.

Mine was not like that because I did not retire and I had served my 8 years active duty plus some.

Works different for different branches though too and I am not to familiar with the Navy.
"If Tyranny and Oppression come to this land, it will be in the guise of fighting a foreign enemy"- James Madison

"Joining the military does not mean that you will be defending the country. The purpose of the U.S. military should be to defend the United States. Period. Yet, one of the greatest myths ever invented is that the current U.S. military somehow defends our freedoms. First of all, our freedoms are not in danger of being taken away by foreign countries; if they are taken away it will be by our own government. It is not a country making war on us that we need to fear, it is our government making war on the Bill of Rights. And second, how is stationing troops in 150 different regions of the world on hundreds of U.S. military bases defending our freedoms? It is not the purpose of the U.S. military to change regimes, secure the borders of other countries, or spread democracy at gunpoint. The Department of Defense should first and foremost be the Department of Homeland Security."--Laurence Vance--

Yes I had a good friend from High School got called up. He was called up from the Navy. He has a special type of training he never told us nor did I ask. But he's almost 40 years old and now has arrived in Germany but his destination is classified. I told him that there's alot of chatter about something going down and he never responded back to me. So tell me what's up? Something not good. Also my neighbor is from Iran and he's telling me that the regime in Iran is ruling with an iron fist right now due to all the attempted take down of its computer systems. He has family still in Iran and gets updates almost on a daily basis.

Something to think about...

10-10-10 falls on Sunday...

The Chicago marathon is on Sunday...

Rahm Emanuel is now in Chicago...

Larry Silverstein now owns the Willis Tower (formerly The Sears Tower)

Larry Silverstein leased the Twin Towers (World Trade Center) several weeks prior to 911 and took out HUGE insurance policies on them and had a premium on "terror based" infractions. Coincidentally, Marvin Bush chaired that insurance company - so, Silverstein cashed in...

Recall to Active Duty
In an event where Congress declares a state of war or national emergency, the Secretary of Defense can authorize the Secretaries of the Army, Navy, and Air Force to recall retired military personnel. Retirees may be recalled up to age 64 for general officers, age 62 for Warrant Officers, and age 60 for all others. Retirees are placed into one of three categories for recall purposes.

Category I (usually called first) includes retired servicemembers who meet the age and grade criteria, were not retired for permanent disability, have a US address, and have been retired fewer than five years.

Category II (usually called after Category I) includes servicemembers with the same qualifications as the first category, but retired for more than five years.

Category III includes all other retired servicemembers, including permanently disqualified disability retired servicemembers. Category III will generally not be recalled. A member of the Retired Reserve who returns to active duty may only receive one type of payment.
