TV has a built in antenna/cable tuner. Computer monitor does not, so you need a stand alone cable or HD tuner. TV also generally has more inputs on it for externals sources like dvd players and video game consoles. |

I know I can hook my computer up to my flat panel HDTV. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 870032If I get a flat panel HD computer monitor with HDMI can I hook my cable set-top box up to the computer monitor via an HDMI cable? Yes, but most monitors do not have built in speakers for sound. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 870032i'm not a gamer, but my 42"lcd tv was good enough for my eyes when i tried a game last year. when looking at a tv picture, some people don't care as much for clarity. are there any other advantages computer monitor might have over a tv when used for web browsing and gaming? any advantages a tv would have over a computer monitor? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 870032i use 42" lcd tv everyday for work and internet, and the big reason is the COST. (i saw a 42" lcd tv at a big box store yesterday for about $550.00 on sale) a few things to know about using a lcd tv with a computer: make SURE the tv has a plug that matches your computer video output cable.(many lcds tvs have just about everything covered) you'll have to turn the brightness way down because it will give you a headache. the best lcd tvs top out and what is known as 1080p for resolution. i believe that is the resolution for blueray or hd tv? anyways, that is the best resolution to look for because some of the lower end models can have lower resolution(s). when people are visiting and see my setup, they are very envious of it's size and clarity. |

Monitors perform better when it comes to useing it as a Monitor Ignore the resolution the pixeles etc. HDTV will only display what it is given. If the signal it is reciving is not HDTV it will not be any clearer or show more detail than what it would on a non HDTV. Infact if you have a widescreen HDTV it might even look crappy and or with black bars on the side. Resolution is pixel by pixels but the more pixels doesn't mean better quality because in order to get those pixels you must shrink everything on the screen and run the monitor at a SLOWER refresh rate. So basically the higher your res the lower your refresh rate. If you want a Monitor for your computer. Get your self a 22 inch LCD and spend $250 on it. If you want to play your PS3 on an HDTV then get an HDTV thats 40 inchs for $500‘ |
