Mexico isn't all that bad, unless you are a drug dealer or a gang member. Most Americans that get killed were just in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Stick to the touristy areas and you should be fine.

It has been going on, but I think it is growing in intensity. But what I can not understand is why kids are still allowed to go there for spring break and parents are either so un informed or so oblivious to the danger that they allow them to go. I know Mexico doesn't want us to know because that would kill what is left of their tourism economy, our state department doesn't want us to know because they want that border left open for slave labor and illegal voting, the MSM are the mouth pieces for the government, but you have to be really ignorant of what is going on on our border and across the border to take your family across the border, or even near the border.

Just last August I hitchhiked from Nogales AZ down to Oaxaca Mexico and stayed down there for 5 months before returning back up to Nogales and back to michigan now. No problems with violence... actually the opposite. Recent reports say 28,000 murders from drug violence in Mexico since 2006. Which is probably all the murders in Mexico during that time, just labeled as drug war murders. The US is much more dangerous with an average of 16,000 murders each year or 50,000+ In the same time as Mexico murders.

i have to be honest, if I lived in such a beautiful country as the USA, i wouldn't actually feel the need to 'vacation' elsewhere.

you could go on a different holiday twice a year, every year of your life and STILL not take in all the beauty of your country.

He lived in Brownsville...on the border. He was visiting FAMILY members (Mexicans) in Mexico. He was in Matamoros, which is across the river from Brownsville...hardly "vacationing".
