Phantom Doorbell Syndrome - it wakes you up and nobody is at the door

I don't hear the doorbell; but I do hear a firm knock on the door.

My knocks (When I care to tune into that) tell me someone is coming to the door in a short amount of time.

This is called ding dong ditch.

I get phantom texts where I think my cell phone is vibrating, but it's not.

I get hard knocks on my bedroom window, it makes me jump up. There is no one there and it is a series of hard, fast knocks,have no clue what it is.

There are no trees or anything that could be hitting the window, tis a mystery to me.

Sure thing shill.

I work at a chicken farm, I hear chickens phantom peeps, is that the same thing? have to check my back seat on the way home.

It's a bird attacking itself.

Wow this happened to me jsut last night...I wasn't quite asleep and heard my side door open (it's near my bedroom door which I do keep open)...my son was using my comp in my room and i yelled at him "Did someone come in the door"...he got a little scared lol...I got up and the door was locked...i chalked it up do dreaming?

+1 ...and footstep on the stair and strangely drilling.

i hear my doorbell ring many times when i am home alone..the doorbell rings the dog barks we go to the door and noone there..
and the other day i was sitting on the couch heard the frotn door open (thought my son was coming in) but he was walking our from the bedroom hall and said "who just opened and closed the front door"....no clue...havent' figured thsi stuff out yet

Just his foot tapping the floor. I once took my car in due to a bad wiggle that only occurred in the early afternoon, left to idle for about 20 minutes in the school pickup line then on the way home I'd hear a wheels or engine miss.

It was my ADHA boy wiggling his leg repetitively in time to the engine.

One morning my name woke me up. It sounded very different than a dream, and seemed to be coming from the front door. It was so remarkable to me, that I wrote it on my calendar 12/10/08.

Exactly one year later to the day 12/10/09 a girl two houses down came to the door and woke me up. She had been beaten by a transient in the alley. I let her come in and I called 911. She died a couple months later.

and just now, my power went out and came back on before I could post this.

LMFAO!!! No my door has a specific sound when it's opened and shut....thats why it startled me and I woke up completely...I wasn't expecting anyone coming over.

Actually, psychologically it is an auditory remnant of a repeated familiarity stimulus (it's something you hear often and know off by heart, so you imagine it easily when it is not happening sometimes). If a noise is similar to it somewhere (outside, etc) your brain will associate it with that quickly. No demons or weirdness. Relax.

It means the doorbell has a short/dust in it.

How come when I hear the pahntom doorbells, they are always different rings and none are the same as the doorbell I have? (I rang my own doorbell just to see!)
Neighbor hears doorbells too and swears it is the neighborhood kids. Although I have heard them while awake, it usually happens while asleep. Outdoor cameras prove it is not *ding dong ditch* by the way. Coming from someone who has seen lightning balls in her living room (previous house) alongside someone else who concurrently saw the ball of light(about 18 inches and perfectly round and bluish white...hovered in front of the fireplace & disappeared when we spoke.) Have heard the doorbells before inother houses, which we also felt were haunted or something (aliens?). Anyway, my daughters (old enough to know better and still swear to this day) have seen objects move and fly a short ways across the room in a basement where there were no a/c vents. Many a strange thing happens to my family and we are not on meds, drugs, or anything else and we are perfectly sane.

Like everyone else I have heard these phantom doorbells. I have been having these phantom rings for the last 30 yrs or so a couple times a year. No matter what house it is always the same ring, one which I've never physically had, but a generic sounding bell & always seem to come the few times I am in a really deep sleep. The thing is I tear out of bed like a bat out of h*** to rip the door open to find nothing. Doesn't matter what time of the day or if anyone is home. My husband learned to leave me alone after the first few years. I had been napping while he was watching TV once & all of a sudden bolted straight up & was trying to tear down the hall when he thought he would stop me. I was jetting so fast he caught me by the pants, I kept running & drug him off the bed to the floor, which brought my pants down. I don't remember any of that, just opening the door & finding no one there (thank God!...me without my drawers!). He said I didn't miss a beat, just hopped right out of the pants & kept on going. I've also run into him as I tore down the hall & he was coming up it. Smashed him against the wall & had no recollection of it. After all that trouble I'd like to know why this happens. Besides the being in a rare deep sleep it can there are no other ties that I can connect. No good luck/bad luck proceeding within a relative short amount of time. In times of happiness or distress.

I thought I was the only one this happened to. Everyone else I asked just said it was me (I have crazy movie worth epic dreams). Glad to know I am not alone, someone is ringing your bell too!

time to change to battery....

Its happened twice with us. Has never happened.before.
