Re: Anyone else getting a lot more than usual sleep paralysis / lucid dreaming / OBE's lately?
Not really, but I had a freaky-ass, scary dream two nights ago. I was on the second floor of some spooky old mansion, and there were demons present. I start praying like crazy to God to get rid of the demons, but the only thing that kept the fear at bay was my playing the piano. I could play in the dream a lot better than I can in real life.

At some point, I was able to take a-hold of one of the demons; a small one. It was maybe 18 inches long, and was made of some sort of gelatinous, other-dimensional yellow slime. I was squeezing the life out of it with both hands.

Then I dreamed I was watching an interview with the girl from the movie "The Last Exorcism." She was covered in gold paint and smoking a cigarette "European style" (between middle and ring fingers).

I've been having more vivid dreams lately, but that's probably because of the jwh and mugwort.

Odd...

I've been getting loads of crazy dreams. Just this week, there was a bible floating in my room, a picture on the wall came alive ( a woman chasing a chicken) and half of my body was numb and paralysed whilst the other half was awake!! My right arm ouched my left (dead) shoulder and it was if I jolted back into my body...and I could hear this owl the whole time, but the thing is, the room is right next to a a port, so no trees.. Weird. loads of other stuff been happening to

When I get sleepy like right now, I notice that if I lie down for awhile, I will dream something.
So, maybe it's a message for me?
dunno, just sayin' that's what usually happens in my life.
Gonna get a bite and then I'll go to bed. If anything happens, I'll report it here.

Cool - perhaps we can have a mass dream diary thread or something - see if there are any patterns or anything paranormal going on.

Re: Anyone else getting a lot more than usual sleep paralysis / lucid dreaming / OBE's lately?
Is there a possible neurological answer to the terrifying experiences of sleep paralysis? Is it simply a cascade of hallucinatory sequences brought about by a struggle of the I-function to overcome the strong mechanisms of REM sleep?

Sleep paralysis is the phenomenon where a person about to fall asleep or just awakened realizes that they cannot move or speak. The sleeper is almost always lying on their back, and about 30% of the time will have hallucinations, referred to as hypnagogic and hypnopompic experiences (HHEs).1 These include a "vivid imagery, auditory hallucinations, a buzzing sound and/or feeling of "vibrating" inside, tactile (touch) sensations, olfactory (smell) sensations, and sensations of separating or being separated from the body.2 The sleeper awakes to discover that they cannot move except for their eyes. Sometimes, however, these hallucinations include a presence, usually malevolent, threatening, or evil accompanied by severe sense of dread or terror. The presence is likely to be vaguely felt or sensed just out of sight but thought to be watching or monitoring, often with intense interest, sometimes lurking nearby the bed. If the presence is seen, it usually takes the form of a crusher sitting on the chest, succubis/incubus seeking sex with a male/female, or a tormenting old hag.3 Also included in this list is that of alien abduction have, in recent years, has grown in prominence. Usually the experiencer awakens in the night unable to move or cry out as alien beings approach the bed and float the helpless, paralyzed abductee up to a spaceship for a frightening medical examination.4 A recent web-study by UCLA researchers found that from a sample of 250 people with recurrent sleep paralysis, 90% of respondents experience intense fear during their episodes; about 50% have invoked a paranormal or supernatural explanation.5

Hi, I haven't actually read the thread yet, I will go back and do so in a moment...but yes it happened to me last night. Unfortunately, it will be 9 more days before I can actually discuss this particular dream, but I can say I was once again brought to lucidity within a dream by something other than me. I apologize for the current lack of detail, but will elaborate if i can find this thread in 9 days.

Re: Anyone else getting a lot more than usual sleep paralysis / lucid dreaming / OBE's lately?
OP,

I would call what you are describing in your dreams as "dream scouts". They always appear as something quite vivid, and quite out of place. My examples are: a floating (in mid air) rainbow colored angelfish, a metallic green clown shoe on my left foot, an antique umbrella made of purple crystals, a talking dog who looked like a rhino-face and babbled incoherently, a breathtaking woman with dazzling green eyes that appeared to have spirals in the irises. In all cases, the dreams were quite vivid, familiar yet surreal. In most cases they take place in scenarios that I am "familiar" with, like a childhood home or neighborhood, and yet, although in the dream I am convinced I know the place well, upon waking, the details don't even come close to the place that I believed I was in (the school was nothing like my old school...the house nothing like my old house...the neighborhood not even close to the layout of my old neighborhood), but during the dream, everything is exactly where I expect it to be, and in its "proper perspective".

I have come to learn that dream scouts do this, for their own reasons, often to elicit an emotional discharge. I am perhaps not the best person to discuss them, but there was once a book that did a decent job of describing it (yeah here i go again with the castenada crap...) The Art of Dreaming by Carlos Castenada. Keep in mind that this is one of his latter works, possibly his 10th or 11th book even (not sure to be honest). The book is quite detailed, and if you want to understand what and why, I'd suggest giving it a read. I'm sure it will captivate you from the introduction itself (which you really should read as it's somewhat of a recap of previous books, and a description about how we perceive reality).

Thanks! It's really weird. Lots of different things. Vivid colours and sounds. My eyes must have been open at one point (although I was asleep) because there's a picture of this woman on the wall, it was framed picture and she has like a spindle in her hand. I knew I was dreaming at this point, but the picture came alive!! I was actually hallucinating. The spindle turned into a chicken that was frantically flapping trying to get away from her. That's when I realised the whole left side of my body was completely dead/ numb / paralysed, I was even felt cold on my left hand side and was warm on the right, I also felt like I was not in my body, like I was floating above myself, then for some reason (I think I must have taken my right hand or moved my head) I jolted back into my body. This is the same night I saw the floating bible in the room and heard the owl. It wasnt my bedroom it was a hotel. abduct

Re: Anyone else getting a lot more than usual sleep paralysis / lucid dreaming / OBE's lately?
I've had several phases of sleep paralysis that seemed to have started around 2005 or 2006 when I was in my mid 20s. They almost always occured after I started having a really vivid, realistic dream about exploring a secret place..especially walking through a long maze of coridors in buildings and I was on the verge of possibly discovering something really important. I call this "dream walking". I would start to wake up and the paralysis would begin, accompanied by a static white noise then a ringing in my ears. It's how I knew it was going to happen. I could sometimes open my eyes to mere slits but not all the way and my head or arms slightly. It was always frightening, as I didn't know why this was happening to me and wondered what would happen if I somehow stayed paralyzed or if it killed me. I had to fight hard to free myself from this paralysis. I told a few close friends and family in less detail and researched sleep paralysis on the internet. I read something about a tie between that and sleep apnea and thought maybe it was time to make a doctor appointment since that often does kill people.
After a while the sleep paralysis events tapered off and I had phases of them again here and there. My most recent event was Friday morning, September 28(I think) between 4 and 5am and I had one of the most terrifying dreams I've had in a couple years. I was standing outside somewhere at night and a thunderstorm was coming. There were a couple flashes of vivid lightning bolts and the second or third strike revealed the floating silhouette of what looked like an alien being. It had a large head and thin framed body with long arms and legs, like the imfamous "grays". Suddenly, I found myself becoming numb and paralyzed from head to toe while this entity looked down at me from the clouds.
I decided I was going to be different from many people in this situation. I was not going to allow it to take me or at least not without a good fight. I began to feel as though I was turning into something much more powerful than a human being..something alien myself..or maybe my true power coming through. I'm not sure if I was fighting the invisible restraints in real life by thrashing around in bed but that's what I was doing in the dream. It was working! I could feel the paralysis lessening. I sensed that this entity was surprised that my fight against it was having an affect..and maybe it was even a little fearful. Before I woke up, I broke free of it completely. But I sat straight up in bed, then got up and stood in the middle of the room in disbelief of what had just happened.
I know this was more than likely just a normal, very vivid dream and sleep paralysis experience. I had watched the show Fringe before I went to bed the night before! I was not on drugs or any medication when these things happened. I'm sure at least a couple billion people have had dreams like this. It is fun when I have dreams which sometimes blow me away and I wish were my "reality" here in this Earthly dimension. Just not like that alien paralysis dream. But if we are really under a grand illusion created by the Illuminati, aliens or interdimensional beings..I think we must do the unexpected and unite to defy their illusions. I think we must learn to ask what we truly want from the universe and we will have it. We must think positively and let only love be our guide. We must believe in ourselves and that we are so much more than just flesh and bone. We are capable of so much more than many of us have been lead by them to believe. To fight against them in this way is what we must do and they will be powerless against us. Sorry for the book but I hope it an relate to someone here who has had simiar experiences.

Wow - no I totally understand where you are coming from - I've had loads of very weird 'dreams' they are so vivid I often get repeats for several days / weeks after.
I do believe that our dreams are more that what they seem. Scientists try to explain them away but there is still much which cannot be explained about dreams / sleep paralysis etc.
I believe that YES it is very important we learn to tune in to our dreams, since I have been more receptive of my dreams, not only do I have more lucid vivid dreams, but I also feel as if I have met REAL other beings / people. I have had intelligent conversations with people in my sleep. I see people and places that I have never seen before yet at the same time it 'feels' familiar. Perhaps dreaming is another way of communicating in space/time..it is after all electrical signals in the nuerons of our brain....we could get into metaphysics here..

Re: Anyone else getting a lot more than usual sleep paralysis / lucid dreaming / OBE's lately?
I suppose it's ok to mention that there are various levels of dreaming. Sometimes, we actually fall asleep in a dream, and a dream within a dream is usually more vivid than a regular dream. I mention this because there are multiple ways to get to this second level. One, as mentioned, is falling asleep in a dream, and then you "wake up" but you're really in another dream. This process, however, can also seem like that sleep paralysis of which you speak. When I was young, I would have dreams where I would lose control of my body, it simply stopped moving in the dream, I would fall forward, and when i was about to fall flat on my face I'd wake up. After a few years of this happening, I learned what to do, and relaxed and allow myself to fall right through the "floor". It basically starts another "dream spin" but as you can imagine, the feet are the pivot point and the spin goes forward, not sideways or whatever. The result of this process is also a second level dream, usually.

Oh yes back to dream scouts...they change form when you realize they are out of place. There are other methods of compelling them to change form, but one must be aware of them in the first place, and if it's the dream scout that sparks lucidity, well as you've experienced, becoming lucid and them changing form happen simultaneously. In most cases they will even change the dream scene on you at that point. They are interesting critters, those scouts, and from what I can gather, love "emotion energy". It doesn't matter what form, but the more intense the emotion the better.

Hope that little bit helps, I'm not sure what else I really have to offer on the topic.

Thanks for sharing this one. I really think that a lot of the "alien" situations are really beings from a "dimension" very closely ties to our own (the home "dimension" of the dream scouts). The scouts are the least volatile of the things that come from there. Some things from there are trapped over here (just realize a lot of ancient knowledge was destroyed for a good reason). Like the scouts, they lack the "fuzzy animated" energy that we humans produce, and they enjoy it immensely. I am not sure if its food, or a drug to them to be honest, or maybe both.

In the face of these creatures, please understand: Love and Fear are the same. Any emotional discharge pulls them closer/tightens their hold. What you described, your steadfast resolve was cold and emotionless, was it not? Yes, you felt yourself tapping into your true self, and im sure that felt phenomenal, possibly even blissful, but the reality is, had you sent nothing but love to these creatures, they would not have let go so easily. Of course, this is all under the assumption that I am correct in my analysis, which may not be the case, but it's my hypothesis, and im stickin to it ;)

Re: Anyone else getting a lot more than usual sleep paralysis / lucid dreaming / OBE's lately?
I had a dream the other night where in my dream I knew I was dreaming. I was flying over the earth and could see everything that was happening. All of a sudden it went dark. I felt extreme sadness and some fear as it was pitch black. I felt like in my dream that this is separation from God. No light, just forever darkness. I kept thinking in my dream I need to scream so my son could wake me up. I was unable to make a sound and then I thought I should hit the wall behind my headboard as that will usually get my son to my room. I was unable to move. I then started to have what I knew was a seizure all over but was unable to call out for help. I finally stopped having the seizure and thought if I could just open my eyes I will wake up. I was able to open my eyes and was in my room but then I went back to sleep and my dream continued. It was really weird. This process kept happening over and over until the lst time I opened my eyes and decided that I had to stay awake so the dream would end. When I was finally able to move, I got up out of bed but was too anxious to go back to sleep. I kept thinking the dream would occur again.

Lucid dreams every night. Going on a week steady now. Every other night before. Second level dreams when I want. Most of the time I wake myself up when I go into a blackout (dreamspin). Because false awakenings suck, and I ended up in a pretty violent encounter with a scout 5 days ago. Note to everyone: your dreams only mean anything to you. No one else will get anything from your description, except maybe misinformation. Information should be kept vague as to not mislead someone. But, here's a point of intrest, if you're into casteneda, and energy work and stuff: do. not. Center ground and shield close to a scout in your dream space. You wanna talk about bad news? I could barely roll out of bed when I woke up, sooo weak. If you ground near a scout, you may end up grounding into them. Make your own assumptions as to the outcome.

Re: Anyone else getting a lot more than usual sleep paralysis / lucid dreaming / OBE's lately?
OP.... how do I describe this.. hmm (Don't kill me if I'm not expressing this completely right, just try and get the picture):

The "dream state" and the "awake state" are closing in on eachother. These two are two different altered states of awareness - we are never in just one state of awareness throughout our lives - but in many!

We are currently (according to how I feel it and best can describe it) moving through and are almost out of the 4th dimension or the "time-dimension". Next dimension to enter upon is the 5th... which is closer to the "dream state".

Have you noticed that it takes a lot less time from when you lay down to rest, until you start seing images in your mind? Have you noticed that dreams suddenly take over the relaxing state prior to falling the sleep? I have! And I believe it is a result of the two states of consciousness/awareness coming together.

I am now experiencing "altered states" of consciousness/awareness during the day when I am awake. I find myself "go blank" or start daydreaming - OR seing different colors, radiance, outlines/energies of nature/objects and people. As if dream is being blended with awake state to a certain degree.

I have a feeling that OBE's occur more easily, dreams being more lucid and also sleep paralysis (which can occur at the point of the hypnagogic state of the mind)are happening more now - because of the closing in of the "two states of mind".

Cheese ALWAYS works for me about 2 or 3 hours before bedtime, sometimes right before. Specifically, creamy Havarti, maybe 50-100 grams.

I last night I can remember: some sort of stressful ferry/boat trip (somewhere) then had a dream where I went to some sort of rustic homestyle water park, and a final dream where I went to a bong shop where everything was way too expensive.

Miss malla.
I've heard and seen similar. This shift was described to me as a movement from the solar plexus chakra (success, self, order) to the throat chakra (expression, personal space, lucidity). I'm aware there is a chakra between those two, but it's how the concept was presented to me. Every so often, usually once a day or so, I see shades of color, pin stripes of light, shafts and wavering images around stuffs. Often times along powerlines, like I'm actually seeing the energy run down them. So, yeah, I second your idea. :)
In encounters with scouts, or "greys" or whatever you'd like to call them, it's important to remember that, according to beliefs ranging from the gnostics to modern day shamanism, we, in our natural state, have more energy then they do. So the only way that they can do an aware person harm, is either through compliance, foolishness, consent, or inaction. Take in mind however that this is strictly in the realm of speculation, since my own experience with them is limited, but not unexistant. You can take care of yourself in a pinch, as long as you intend to.
Seeing auras and energy, and interaction with extra dimensional beings. We're not crazy. :-P
