Suddenly, Live 8 Shapes Up As the Best Rock Lineup Ever; Huge G8 Spotlight
the message is enjoy the music, but get galvanized: focus: end world hunger and third world debt. one day of music and donations won´t do it, however, focusing attention is important. i´ll always try to remember that as i enjoy the show.

As for the show, paul mccartney is to open and close. for the opening number, paul will be joined by at least bono for a rendition of sgt pepper´s lonely hearts club band in vintage sgt pepper´s attire. right before mccartney´s close of long and winding road, the reunited pink floyd will rock out with breathe, comfortably numb and wish you were here. also at hyde park are the who, though the only official mention of it that i can find is at pete´s website, u2, sting, madonna, lennox, rem, coldplay, elton john and velvet revolver, plus uk stars

philadelphia: stevie wonder, dave matthews, bon jovi, 50 cent

scotland: some good bands, forget who exactly

canada: gordon lightfoot, neil young, ´guess who´, celine dion - by video from las vegas, tragically hip, our lady peace, and a still-faint-rumored Rolling Stones, who will just be setting up rehearsal for their world tour from toronto next week.

germany: csn, brian wilson

Gag...gag... gag....

Sir Paul to top Live8 bill

Sir Paul McCartney landed the headline spot at Live 8 after threatening not to perform at all.

The 62-year-old former Beatle told organisers he wanted to open Saturday´s Hyde Park concert and close it or he would ´think seriously´ about taking part.

They have bowed to his demand and Sir Paul will start the show with a version of Sergeant Pepper´s Lonely Hearts Club Band - reworded to honour the achievements of Bob Geldof - and round it off eight hours later with The Long and Winding Road.

In a compromise to clashing egos, he will share the stage for the opening number with Bono and U2. Both stars and the rest of the band will pay homage to the Sergeant Pepper legend by wearing the multicoloured militarystyle suits the Beatles wore on the 1967 album cover.

A Live 8 source said Sir Paul´s headline slot had ruffled a few feathers. ´Some of the more fragile egos are upset,´ he said. ´Bono, in particular, was quick to demand a share of the opening number and sees what he has done politically over the years as a bit more relevant to Live 8 than what Paul has to offer. Remember, these are the biggest rock stars around. Whatever order they sing in there is going to be friction.´

Sir Paul´s demands may be a reflection of sensitivities arising from two previous affronts.

At Live Aid in 1985, which he also headlined, he performed half of Let It Be with a faulty microphone until engineers fixed the fault.

And last November, producers of the latest Band Aid single said he was too old to sing on it and he was relegated to playing bass guitar.

A spokesman for the star said last night: ´Bob (Geldof) asked him if he would do it, and he is delighted to be taking part in such an important event.´

The show is expected to be seen by billions of television viewers worldwide.

Yawn to the whole thing .. just another vehicle for a bunch of old boring musicians who need to flog another few million crap albums. This whole charade will do nothing to solve the problem, which is caused purely by greed from the upper echelons of our society. If the multinationals, world bank etc etc left Africa alone it would sort itself out. Besides, the more aid we give the more weapons Africas´ incompetant leaders buy.

It´s just another scam, I doubt 3 cents out of every dollar given will actually reach needy Africans at all. After the nerds in charge saw how fast that first BILLION dollars in donations rolled in after 911, they have been salivating for ANY excuse to beg for more hard earned dollars. Why do you think "wimpy bush" and "dipshit clinton" were begging for money after the tsunami? The Africans wouldn´t have so many starving folks if someone would just blow up ALL the dams that have cut off their water supply...duh.
