The manual identifies a new mental illness called “oppositional defiant disorder” or ODD. Defined as an “ongoing pattern of disobedient, hostile and defiant behavior,” symptoms include questioning authority, negativity, defiance, argumentativeness, and being easily annoyed.

OMG - That is so fucking far from the diagnostic criteria for ODD it is not even funny! Hahahaha Seriously flawed post. First of all, there are 4 criteria (out of a list of 8) that MUST be met for a minimum of a continued period that lasted "AT LEAST 6 MONTHS." The "behavior" must be a "pattern" AND it MUST "occur more frequently than is typically observed in individuals of comparable age and developmental level." Oh, you are probably wondering why age and developmental level are mentioned... hmmmm maybe because it ONLY applies to kids UNDER 18! FURTHERMORE, the retard who posted the piece failed to mention another criteria that MUST be satisfied - namely - "the disturbance in behavior causes clinically significant impairment in social, academic, or occupational functioning." That is correct - clinically significant impairment. Whoever wrote that piece should be ashamed of themselves for blatantly trying to create drama where none is necessary. Maybe the person needs attention and didn't get it from mommy... I am sure he is in the DSM-IV-TR somewhere...

the fact that this applies specifically to those under 18 is what i find the most disturbing about it. i mean. come oooon. ODD = average adolescent behavior.

adolscents are supposed to be defiant and question authority. its a key aspect of that developmental stage.
