All the ancients observed the nightly heavens. They saw 7 moving objects - the 7 Classical Planets* - and 4 don't cast shadows on Earth (Venus does)/4 can't be seen during daytime (Venus can be). There are 4 phases of the lunar 'moonth', each roughly 7 days (~7.4 days) each. Lunar year + 7 day week + 4 days = 365 day solar year. The Big Dipper is 7 stars with 4 forming the rectangular ladle. The 4th star in the middle of the 7 is the brightest. The Big Dipper points to the North Star - Polaris - which is at the tip of the handle of the Little Dipper: again, 7 stars with 4 forming the rectangular ladle. Mars returns to the same point against the background of the stars every 47 years.

History has chronicled that the ancient Mesopotamians were the first to keep astrological records. They built their ziggurats/observation towers to be 7 levels (six stories) high, i.e. the Tower of Babel/Ziggurat of Babylon (Genasis 11:1). The Jewish menorah(7 letters) with its 7 lamps on 4 branches mystically represents the *7 Classical planets in this order: Moon, Mercury, Venus, Sun, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn. The Sun is the 4th of 7 whether you go right-to-left or left-to-right and it's on its own branch.
