So, breaking out of the matrix equates to reaching the causal plane/body in your experience?
What is your take on practices designed to increase energy? In my experience these are a mixed blessing of sorts. They can lift me up or help me achieve an insight, but they also tend to exaggerate my negativity and bad character traits. Observing this is helpful, of course, but I'm not yet sure if it's the right approach at all. It seems a good part of this energy generated by these practices goes straight to those entities, giving them a big feast.
Should there be a purifying of the physical and subtle ("astral") side of things first before attempting such practices? Or is the other option OK, as long as I am willing and prepared to face what is coming up this way?
Not just a few teachers warn against energetic exercises without proper preparation, I'm aware of this. Yet, it seems to me, at least some extra energy is needed to actually get out of low-energy ruts.

You pray it down and they steal it. You put your money in Social Security and they steal it. So good energy will easily flow into existing negative channels. This is precisely why the body, mind and emotions must be cleaned from bad habits before new energy is granted. Holding good energy is like holding heat in the dead of winter, it just seems to leak out everywhere and you can't figure it out without an infra red camera. The body needs to be cleaned and sealed off and the good energy needs to be quickly channeled into constructive avenues so it doesn't' stagnate. Just holding energy is karmic as the energy wants to move and spin and flow and do good things in the world. Perhaps having an enlightened plan to use the energy once you get will help you get it. This is something to take up with your spirit guides. Also helpful with this is to know from experience the different ways the ego will try to reassert itself and being proactive about that. You are huge target when you are glowing on the astral with the colorful Sacred Rays. You look like a giant bonfire on a dark night to these entities. They are going to fly over and try to get warm like moths to the flame.
This issue presents another tricky catch 22 situation: You can only get clean by getting the Sacred Rays, yet you can't get the Sacred Rays until you are clean and reliable.
You must prove your reliability before you get anything from God at these higher levels. The Rays are 100% conditional. Forget about favors, forgiveness and blessings cause your sooo sweet and God loves you....
Children are fed on the pure milk of the "Word", but the Rays are for adults who know they are fighting a brilliant astral chess master, that we have called the puppet master. The game is about controlling oil, coal, electricity and subtle energy.
You will not win your first games, I can tell you that.
