Dutch F16s scramble to intercept Russian bombers.
2 F16s from Dutch Royal airforce intercepted 2 Russian long distance bombers type TU-95 MS above the North sea.

They succeeded in guiding them away from European airspace.

This is the second time in a month that Russian bombers penetrated European airspace.

Sorry, link in Dutch : [link to www.ad.nl]

The Russians have done this numerous times to several countries (even Canada) over the past couple of years. They are probing response and weaknesses in the system. The question is why?

No different than any other country "spying" on another using Satellites, High-Alt Balloons or whatever UAV/"kit" they have flying around these days after the cold war.

The only difference is Russia just doesnt have the cash to splash out on expensive Scram/Pulsejet Stealth technology as noone in the country has a penny to their name, except the Government and Billionnaires. Hence why they stick to the gear thats some 30 years old now.

We can watch those fuckers take off with our satellites. We can watch them fly every mile of their routes with our AWACs. We can shoot them down the second they break the horizon with our patriot missiles. They know all this. They're flying 1950s vintage bombers. They wouldn't stand a chance. What's to test?

Our Patriot-B missiles can shoot down an ICBM. No "upgraded package" can stop that. I agree with the post that mentioned our UAVs can shoot the damn thing down.
