I was hoping to get one of SOHO EIT animated gifs to see the impact but they have CCD Bakeout.

I'm not saying that my dream has anything to do with this comet but I'm the type of guy that wakes up every day without any memory about any dream.. Except one...

Some time ago I had a dream about the sky turning in to fire.. It was like someone was rolling an orange carpet on our atmosphere... I saw it expand in front of my eyes and woke up scared..

Normally I don't care about some weird dream but it scares me that other people are experiencing the same kind of dreams...

I had the opposite about 6 months ago.
In my dream I was looking out the window of a high rise building watching the sky and all of a sudden the sky looked like it was turning into water. It looked liked the reflection of tides coming in from the ocean.

Very strange indeed.

Spica is a binary star system over 200 light years away. Yeah, I guess you can say that it missed it.

Why can't I be curious? I am interesting in seeing the impact and how the sun reacts to it.

Give or take. 1 pixel size (on the sun from this camera distance) would amount to 1000 miles.
Not taking into account orbital inclination, Magnitude Linear Sight. This comet would be no bigger (averagely) than say 5km across.

That gives you a scale of depth, a Comets tail isn't compacted mass. Its simply vapor being torn away from the nuclei by Solar Heating, like a kettle steaming in effect.

I was waiting for an EIT so we could see the impact if the comet had made impact on the side facing earth. Unfortunately those are all bakeout.

What has me a little worried is that it may be hitting in the space area where that weird filament was erupting.

Comets don't "hit" the Sun. They dont even get anywhere close to its surface. The Outer atmosphere of the Sun is hotter than the surface, thus evaporates much of the cometary mass before it has time to follow the aphelion curvature by being captured from the Gravity.

The Gravity alone breaks up much of a comets mass, the radiant heat does the rest. Comets can produce tails as far out as the orbit of Jupiter due to this, what do you think is going to happen to a bit of ice exposed to thousands of 'c just within Mercury's orbit?

This does make me wonder - what if inhabitants of some distant planet relied on that poor comet to warn them of impending doom.....now doom is just gonna come and get them and they'll never see it coming
