Anonymous Coward User ID: 1119489 United States 10/23/2010 10:22 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Ok, got a problem with one of my cats. I have had her for 8 years. Totally litter box trained. All of a sudden she has decided to poo on the carpet and not use the box. Same brand of litter, box is cleaned twice a day. Got a clue what is going on? I have tried everything. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1086168Crap. When our cat turned 9 she started doing the same thing. Pooping and peeing on our bed. We changed her litter box, put plastic on the bed, NOTHING. We finally had to kick her completely out of the bedroom and she started deficating and peeing on the sofa. We took her to the vet multiple times. There was no infections or physical reason. We finally started letting her do her business outside and she became a much happier cat. I NEVER believed in outdoor cats, but she simply wasn't happy in the house anymore. Good luck. I've heard there are cat calming herbs and pheromones to help them urinate and deficate in the right places. You might try that. |

TheOracle User ID: 1133455 United States 10/23/2010 10:29 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Sometimes they do this because they are sick. They want to show you something. HOWEVER, that said, I have a cat that gets really mad if it doesn't get enough attention and will take a dump just to tick me off. There have been times that I had to do the litter box moving trick at when this happened. Also, our magnetosphere/ionosphere has been taking some pretty good hits lately. This affects people and most likely affect animals too. Kindness is in our power, even when fondness is not. --Samuel Johnson |
strawtermelon User ID: 1140019 Australia 10/23/2010 10:30 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | My cat suddenly decided to start urinating on the bed. We tried moving the box and trying different litter..It turns out, he decided he didnt like his litter anymore, and when we got to a natural one that was really lightweight and such, he liked it. We havent had any problems since. So, Id suggest trying different litters.. Also, in the process of finding a solution I found out sometimes cats change their toiletry habits when theyre stressed too.. and stress can be caused by something as little as getting new curtains in a room.. moving a piece of furniture in your house etc. For this, Im not sure how you would fix the problem.. extra loving attention.. treats throughout the day to make them happy? |

CRYSTAL in MATRIX User ID: 1064319 United States 10/23/2010 10:33 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Try "Cat Attract" cat litter. You have to go to a pet store to find it, and it's spendy ($15 - $16) but it lasts a long time, clumps up nicely and doesn't smell. It is GUARANTEED to train/re-train your cat to the box. Quoting: Anonymous coward 1101716I tried that...works for new cats, but didn't for my older cat who had stopped using the box.... "No guts, no glory!" |

Also, a cat generally likes to do its business outdoors in the morning. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1086168Because of the crap and garbage they put in pet food these days, unless you buy a super premium pet food that is organic and natural with no by-products, they are prone to what veterinarians now call STERILE-CYSTITIS......take her to the vet and see if he doesn't tell you she has a few struvite crystals and sterile cystitis....but, of course that's a half-truth, because NOW HE HAS A CHANCE TO SELL YOU SOME "SPECIALTY FOOD" that he makes nothing but money off of that is complete garbage.........but hey it makes him money...... research it on the internet and there are things you can give them to help with the struvite crystals that you can buy over the internet......... or she could have a FULL BLOWN UTI (urinary tract infection)...... they have specialty litter that turns color if there is blood in the urine..... also she could be constipated bad....... all of these reasons could be the problem she needs a URINE TEST.........they need to express urine from her bladder and test it....... it's not expensive about 25.00 unless they have to draw it with a needle..... my cat once pissed straight dark blood all over the table when the vet pushed on his bladder....... it's a trend with the cat foods these days.....especially the dry stuff.........WET CANNED IF POSSIBLE, THE SLOPPIER THE BETTER.....with the most water in it....... a tablespoon of pumpkin for constipation or gut grease every other day I go through this all the time......... |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 1125425 United States 10/24/2010 02:36 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I have been having the exact same problem with my 17 year old cat for about a year now. Multiple vet visits have not uncovered any health problems. Lots of good advice on here. I do know if I pay more attention to her by talking to her and giving her lots of pets, she seems to do it less. One vet said when they get older, they can get kind of lazy and don't feel like making the effort to get in the box. |

One vet said when they get older, they can get kind of lazy and don't feel like making the effort to get in the box. when they get older it's constipation plain and simple for the poop part anyway, anywhere they get the "urge"....because it is so uncomfortable......feel their stomaches, they are usually hard as a rock and sometimes very distended and bloated, you can see and feel it........you have to give them natural non-petroleum gut grease constantly and HALO SPOTS STEW has the most water content of any cat food.....it's pricey though...... My poor cat before he died got so impacted from old age and lethargy that he laid down and howled. I had to pull it out of his butt with rubber gloves.........that was the only thing I don't miss about him...... |
fillantpre User ID: 1140088 United States 10/24/2010 02:42 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Try cleaning the box out with Clorox, litter boxes are made of plastic and absorb odors over time and smells tend to offend cats. A good cleaning with Clorox will remove odors, anything else unwanted, and festering in the litter box. Quoting: SilverPatriotI'm sorry, but that is just what you don't want to do...bleach is toxic.....horribly.....and not neccessary......it should be cleaned with some natural cleaner.........CATS LIKE THEIR EXCREMENT and if they smell traces of it, will be more likely to visit the box.... that's why vets tell you to train them by putting the turds in the box when they are kittens...... |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1086168there's something natural on the web.......for preventing struvite crystals........I can't remember the name of it.......it either makes the urine more acidic (PH BALANCE) or more alkaline, I can't remember......but that is the key...to the problem. |

She has a diarrhea problem because she has to eat wet cat food because she no longer has teeth. However, if you do think your cat is constipated, give them a little coconut oil. They love it and it goes right through them. If they have a diarrhea problem, like my cat does, mix some kefir with the food. |
