For any number of reasons, you lose electricity without notice and your water stops running. (Public water supplies need electricity) When people eventually realize the outage extends beyond their immediate circle of travel, they will panic and stores will be looted. Stores cannot be protected because…the police departments have no electricity. Gas stations will be closed when they cannot deliver fuel because…they have no electricity. It’s funny how that works, isn’t it? As more people begin to panic they will assemble into angry mobs armed with guns, knives, baseball bats and sticks. No police presence means no protection for you or anyone else. The police have raced home to protect their families

OP, excellent summation of planning options. Nothing new here, but a good summary and consolidation of planning points.

For those of you who "don't get it"...
In Hurricane Floyd, in '99, the flood afterwords was the worst part...
We had to live in waist deep water surrounding my house for a week or more. Many died, as they were too stupid to figure out what was happening fast enough. Many others died or got sick, by not knowing that fast moving dirty nasty water would kill you because of what you can't see, and the diseases they carry.
When the water went down, we had to get supplies, and what did I see? EMPTY grocery stores, where no trucks could move across washed out roads and bridges. RATIONED gasoline, 5 gal, and people FIGHTING OVER IT. I stood in line for an HOUR to get 5 gal's of gas for the generator. There were RAIDERS/LOOTERS/HOME INVADERS, cattle thieves, pig thieves, running rampant, a few got themselves shot, there is opportunity in CHAOS, don't you know that?

I ate crackers and cheese and peanut butter, for days, I never want to see another cracker, piece of cheese, or peanut butter. BUT, I learned a valuable lesson. PREPARE for the worst, pray for the best.

We are now, a community of 'preppers'. Woe unto the raiders.

Very good analysis. I have one route to add to your possible roadmap of possibilites.

Another 1st world country may step in physicaly and hold a sembalance of order amoung the population that wants to remain in place and orderly all accross the country. Food will be distributed to stores and people will continue to work. Rioters and looters will be shot on the spot by occupying forces.

Random acts of violence and possible small scale extermination attempts may be made by organized and unorganized hispanic and white racial groups against African-Americans (because they are high profile and seem to be the most universally hated by the rest of the population). Quelling any small scale racial elimination attempts may be considered a terciary issue by the occupying force for the first 18 months or so, until proper governmental order can be restored. (Which it will be).

Perhpas trials of governmental officals will be held at this time.

OR

Perhaps nothing will happen, but I would imagin that other 1st world European governments have some type of plans in place to come to the aid of the population to some extent.

Nothing happens in a vacume.

Time will tell.

Do you Americans think you will have a civil war in your country?

If so, who will be fighting who?

Whites & Hispanics vs. blacks?

If so, what will happen to your HUGE Oriental population in California. There are tons of them over there. They live right on top of each other. They do not farm or work at any type of labor jobs. They seem to get all of the benifits of Afirmative-Action in your country ahead of the white men, but are seemingly innofensive. What will they do without these governmental handout jobs? Will they starve? Will they join in the civil war (if there is one)?


What do you think will happen when the rice supply at their WalMart runs out?

I don't think you understand the main point of this post.
Civil War may occur but that would be after the collapse.
The collapse can be caused by many factors rangeing from a solar event to nuclear war to economic implosion.

May I suggest you game possible events-then make your bug out plan work accordingly.
I have gamed out multiple scenarios and all depend on getting out early. If some wait it out a few days that is almost a guaranteed death in my opinion.And if you misjudged the event you can always come back home to join the band at church or whatnot.

Your idea of various groups banding together was accurate but You discounted yacht clubs....hummm.
I have a fourty foot yacht...sail and power...totaly self contained well supplied and waiting... watermaker and all.
Boaters already band together.
It is an existing culture of helpfullness.
Not so many people have a seaworthy boat. That means less competition for resources not accessable to those without a boat.
The ocean will not run out of food and I will never have to eat my dog or my wife.

ITA. Its not an easy subject to chat about. Many people are so focused on other useless crap, that you can't even get their attention long enough to talk about important matters. I know a few like minded local people and its kind of understood that we will stick together if TSHTF. But nothing official. Most people don't really believe that TS will ever HTF. They think that we will go on just like we are forever. My bible believing friends tend to feel more like I do, that something is going to happen its just a matter of when. The average Walmart shopper is clueless.

I know like-minded individuals who don't live constantly in a paranoid state of mind, but are prepared and are preparing.

Even in times like these, it's important to still get to know people, to get to know your neighbors, even if you don't include them in your plans, you can pick up on clues that will let you know what kind of people they are.

I'll tell ya, in the last year or two, I've met a lot of people whom have not violated their own OPSEC with me, but you can "tell". There seems to be a mutual understanding.

You pick up the clues sometimes from things they talk about. If they are talking about foreign policies or the latest agrarian measures and know who Monsanto is instead of talking about Dancing with the Stars, you just might be able to call up that person when SHTF. It's all there for us to clue in to.
