We care for it because of us, not the planet.
The planet will survive a lot of climates, a lot of live can also be sustained in a lot of climates.
We humans and most current live are used to this climate.
A lot of ice or a lot of water or lot more coldness or a lot more hotness will be difficult for us. And maybe also fuck up our agriculture and food.

If there were they and all their buildings and equipments have been totally destroyed. We never find a car from a few hundred thousands year old, or big iron bridges...
But who knows, if the earth became hot like lava it could destroy a lot. Also oxidation destroys iron. But rust, like on mars, would be the effect. All metals mined and oxidised to dust. That we find stuff to mine now probably means we are the first to mine it, no other civ mined it before...
