czygyny User ID: 418932 United States 10/26/2010 02:41 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | This sort of behavior starts around autumn and spring and they gather to begin their migrations. We get a lot of Brewer's blackbirds, starlings, Canadian geese and sometimes crows gather in huge flocks before they move off to their summering or wintering grounds. They gather in my 200' tall oak trees and make a deafening racket. The only thing different for us this year are straggling flocks of Greater white-front geese, who by now are usually exceedingly high up in the atmosphere in large V groups as they travel down to the central state. I've never seen them come around and land like this. The turkey vultures have begun their gathering, too. You can see 40-100 of them circling in a formation called 'kettling'...it is really quite a sight, but the numbers are down for them this year. Kletos, Eklektos & Pistos |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 1138804 United States 10/26/2010 03:26 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | called migration ...happens every year .... you just choose to pay attention now..... Port Huron here Quoting: Anonymous Coward 496282Not so fast! Many people have been reporting "odd" bird/animal behavior, lately. I;m not saying it's a "new behavior", it's just occuring in "different" locations making people notice. If these animals use magnetism to aid in their migration routes, new appearances in new areas might signal a change in the magnetism/pole shifting? |
