The Fundamental Irrationality of the Left-Right Political Spectrum Heuristic and an Accompanying Clarification
Within the context of consensus political discussion, in other words MSM sanctioned politics, Nazi’s will be placed on the far right of the political spectrum and Communists will be placed on the far left.
So within the political framework provided to us by academia and media, we only have the option to oscillate between ‘International Socialism’ (Left) and ‘National Socialism’ (Right).
One must be aware of the general misappropriation of ‘isms,’ in the sense that an orthodox academic socialist will present an argument vis-à-vis Nazism that it is, a priori, not socialist because it does not follow the edicts of Marx in Das Kapital.
Similarly, contemporary Americans will argue that their (our) country is (should be) a Libertarian Constitutional Republic based on the content and philosophy of the founding documents/fathers, despite the manifest presence of socialism in the firmament of the economy since no later than 1914 and our current oscillation between the archetypes of National Socialism (Bush) and Marxist/International Socialism (Obama).
It is a given that ideological socialists will voluntarily refer to themselves as ‘Leftists,’ ‘liberals’ etc and volunteer themselves to the left of the political spectrum.
One end of the political spectrum cannot be identical to the other (unless you are a neo-con). Nazi’s and Communists are quite simpatico when it comes to style of governance (if this is not clear to you, well, meh).
So thus we are left with Socialists (Nazi’s, Commies, Swedes, etc) on the left of the spectrum and libertarians (Classical Liberals, endangered species) on the right.
