1. The most grievous lie is that man can contribute in some way to his eternal salvation...man can thus save himself.
2. It SHOULD be obvious to many professing Christians that God dealt with the nation of Israel, as His expression of the Kingdom of God on earth, for 2,000 years -- Jacob--means "deceiver" [who's Hebrew name was changed to "Israel"--"God is righteous"/"Jasher-EL-ISRAEL"]...Jacob was born in 2007 BC and Christ was born in 7 BC [not in dispute], and 2,000 years have now passed from Christ - at age 17 [17 is a symbol number in all the Bible for "Heaven"] to this year. The Bible makes clear that National Israel was given as an "ensample", a paradigm of the Church Age, and serious Christians have a strong sense that the passing of 2,000 years of Christianity is extremely important.
3. in I Thes 5 we see that professing christians will cry "peace and safety" at the time of the End: "don't worry, be happy, we have nothing to fear"---they say "no man knows the Day or Hour of Christ's coming on Judgment Day"; they say
"I'm saved, I don't need to know the timing of Christ's coming"...
Virtually 100% say this, when a close examination of many Scriptures sharply contradicts this view [Heb 10:25, Rev 3:3, Matt 24:43, Luke 12:39, I Thes 5:1-9, etc.]...they falsely claim that the Bible says "Christ comes by surprise - as a Thief", when this passage, I Thes 5, makes clear He only comes to the unsaved as a Thief.
God has deliberately hidden these things from most, as He promised [Isaiah 6:9 & 10], for His own glory. It is now, at the "time of the End" that God, speaking ONLY in the Bible, has graciously opened by an understanding of the timing of the End [Daniel 12: 4, 9, Rev 5]...the Elect weep much [Rev 5:4], like the Apostle John, pleading, begging, crying mightily to God [Jonah 3:8] for Grace and Mercy, seeking to understand this "time of the End", seeking salvation and the New Birth. The Elect cry the opposite of "peace and safety"--they cry "DANGER, eternal damnation just ahead". In Matt 26:36-56 Christ, as He approached Judgment Day for His Elect, threw Himself on the ground 3 times, begging, crying out to His Father for Mercy and Grace, as He demonstrated how He bore the sins of all the Elect.

1. an explanation by leader/s [harold camping, whoever] will be given to the effect: "the time was not right for christ to come to judge mankind. the world is not yet ready" whereby another date is set; OR

2. leader/s changes interpretation slightly saying that christ has come but invisibly, and that mankind is instead experiencing some sort of "spiritual" judgement, invariably something which is going on that is unseen to human eyes. these two explanations, if handled correcly, allow to escape a certain amount of public humiliation; OR

3. leader will retreat with hardcore followers into some secluded neck of the woods whereby they become more fundamentalist, paranoid, and possibly militant in nature, inevitably leading to brushes with the authorities and ultimately armed conflict or mass suicide. hopefully this is something that won't have to occur.

it is impossible to calculate a date given those in [2] above [and more] considerations. we are not god and don't even come close to fathoming his standards on universal justice and order. it goes against divine logic, reason, and common sense for god to "reveal" a set date given the many extenuating complex issues he must concurrently contend with going on in real [i.e. our] time, all the time, factoring the fluctuating circumstances, heart inclinations, and situations of all humans [past, present, future] in a system under the adversary's control who further is constantly badgering, challenging, and making accusations against him without end. since we all are endowed with the gift of free agency yet are subject to the unfortunate effects of sin under an empire whom the devil claims to be ultimate dictator [2 corinthians 4:4], it would NOT BE LOVING let alone reasonable on god's part to "reveal" a set date to judge mankind. without having to register them in another school, if you knew your children were being bullied or were given inadequate education and you knew you'd be unable to make effective appeals, complaints, and/or changes due to your knowledge of the politics, bureaucracy, corruption, and other factors peculiar to that institution and it's "working" relationship with local/state authorities, would you have unjustified, unnecessary expectations of your children concerning their knowledge of things? is it reasonable to expect a good standard of knowledge evident in children in other reputable institutions by setting certain times for them to complete standard tasks knowing the environment to which they are frequently exposed is not conducive to proper learning? and yet you know there is nothing wrong with your children; they are good, loving, kind, and compassionate human beings. the point is, the state of human affairs and the inclinations of the human heart is in constant flux due to a prevailing restless, corrupt environment; therefore it would NOT BE LOVING on the part of our heavenly father to "reveal" a date for all in every state, nation, and country living under and competing with a variety of circumstances [as groups or as individuals] that are beyond their control. hence, the logic behind jesus' quote: "but of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my father only."
