yes, the smack effect. it also looks like John naturally lost the layer of baby fat from his face as he got older, as many do. whatever precipitated it... even pot can affect appearance, esp over time. sure he had his share of speed, coke, and a variety of plants & chemicals that subsequently exert physiological changes as a byproduct of the primary mental...adjustments [mood, over time].

we have to remember, as well, that the influx of money, thousands of potential sexual partners, as well as the drugs has changed the looks of many rock stars, be it the new freedom, mental outlook, etc. [i know i look better with more $, etc. ;p ]. i'd be interested in seeing photos of keith richards or mick jagger during the same period. they changed pretty fast from the mid 60's to the mid-70's, too. i don't know many ppl that have the same facial fat content or contours of features as they did when they were in their early 20's.
