Quoting: Anubisnot that i would beat them but there is a certain limit IMHO that corporal punishment can be effective. my 14 year old was even given a card with a phone number to CPS on it for god sake one time, some ninny neighbor called CPS on us because, and i quote "they let their kids play in the front yard unsupervised" (when they were like 8-10 years old) so that started an "investigation" culumnating with CPS taking my kids out of class with out my knowledge and interrogating them all about "do you do drugs does your parents do drugs does your parents hit you do they 'touch' you bla bla" and then an interview of each of us i was so pissed off they closed the file when the realized there was no basis for it but still... the main thing i was mad about was they think they can go to my kids schools, haul them out of class and fill their heads with garbage with out even asking or telling us about it. /end rant sounds like the good ole usa |

I rode off on my bike and didn't come home till the street lights came on... mind you I'm a girl. they never worried. and no one called the cops cause a bunch of us kids we playing unsupervised. If I did get out of line, my Dad beat my ass, and sometimes, in the front yard, and nary a word from the neighbors. Same here but a guy, good old days. BTW, I didn't get out of line because I knew better, better days indeed. |

This is really sad. This sounds to be as if it would be teaching reading using the right side of the brain and not the left. No wonder logic and the ability to use critical thinking is suffering. I feel tremendous sadness for those who have been denied these pleasures because of a poor education these things should not be happening in our rich country very very sad :( "Everything we hear is an opinion, not a fact. Eggcellent Re-Instate Smith-Mundt! User ID: 13043121 United States 09/25/2012 01:08 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Where I am, the kids aren't allowed to give out birthday invitations because it hurts te feelings of those who aren't invited. Quoting: ORECHICKyep and your mom can't bake any goodies for your birthday, they have to be store bought now. You have to be bullshitting me..... are you fucking serious? Has it got that fucked up?!?!?! Oh yes, and more so. I retired in 2004, but prior to that I worked for 10 years as a Teacher Assistant/secretary in a Community college Program for Teens (14 - 18) earning their HS diploma or preparing for the GED (depending on how many credits they needed to have). For 8 of those 10 years, every weekend I would bake cookies and bring them in on Mondays for the kids. I had kids tell me that that was the only reason they showed up on Mondays, and was told in private by several of the kids that the cookies were all they had to eat that day. After 8 years I was unceremoniously told that I was forbidden to bake any more cookies. I asked what, were they afraid I was going to put drugs in them or something? They replied something about peanuts and chocolate and allergies and LEGAL LIABILITY. These kids were almost all around 16 years old. One would think that by then they would know if they had any allergies and let me know or at least have the mental capacity to not eat something they were allergic to. Well, I couldn't afford to buy store-bought cookies, and they taste like sawdust anyway, so the last two years were filled with a whole string of hideous Mondays, and half the kids began not showing up on Mondays too. Go figure.
