The woman was walking in a wooded area with her unleashed dog when bear appeared. The dog chased after the bear when they encountered it. The woman then went to retrieve the dog and got between the dog and the bear. The bear attacked. Just my opinion, but she was nuts for doing that. Besides, Gig Harbor has a leash law. The dog was doing it's thing, trying to protect her from what it felt was a threat and rather than taking advantage of it's heroism and escaping she manages to botch it up and get mauled. I will be damned if a bear didn't come into our camp, and I could not chase it away. I am pretty sure if I had gotten aggresive with it, would have stood its ground, and attacked.
