it was my understanding that oral tradition was highly regarded discipline based on repeating the story word for word with utmost accuracy. a discipline that we probably can't relate to today.
Quoting: Salt & LightYes. And mythology was deemed the scientific tweaking of that discipline because it integrated specific elements of any details that needed to be remembered inside an "epic" retelling of it. Over the centuries historians seemed to think that "older meant dumber".
