That is the first thing that came to mind for me as well when I saw it.

That's the last letter E in the word 'google'...it's not a red crescent moon, guys. LOL

That doesn't mean whatever artist drew the picture did not use that E to portray something different then it normally would.

If you super impose the regular and veterans day images, you see the flag was placed, and designed perfectly in line with the E to cover all but the crescent moon portion of it.

This seemed over the top with the flag looking old and colorless, a cloud behind it with a light, and a red crescent coming out beaming with color. I wish I could post the picture, but the link will have to do....

In the past Google personified its doodle with red, white and blue letters but the addition of an Islamic crescent moon-looking "e" has
all the Internet abuzz.

Tweets via Twitter have included a broad range of hostile opinions about 'Old Glory' appearing with the shadow of a stylized Islamic crescent moon--especially on Veterans Day. The Google doodle is definitely stirring up fears of fanning the flames of anti-Islamic sentiments in America. Was that what Google intended?

Reactions on Twitter have ranged from shock to disappointment at Google's choice of doodle designs for Veterans Day.

LaughTech on Twitter enlarged the logo and set its caption as "Google says, 'Happy Veterans Day, Islam'".

AdrianTweeting makes a similar observation: "The Veterans Day Google logo kind of makes the "e" on the end look like a sinister Islamic crescent lurking behind the flag. Unfortunate."

Im no online wizard and todays google flag even tilted my head with shock at the too obvious crescent moon. I hung a flag outside my door and there was no question as to my alligence. Wendy

I will say it does raise an eyebrow at their choice of placement. However in response to the following posts;



Google yourself up previous Google logos... you'll find the E has been sharp for some time now. So are you going to say they were making the E sharp in preparation of 11-11-2010's logo?



If they would have shown the whole E on top of the flag it would have covered up about 1/2 of the visible portion of the US flag. So then someone would have complained that they are covering up America.



If you super impose anything you can make whatever you want to appear or be covered up intentionally. Look at marketing and they way every advertisement is photoshopped.



I honestly liked how the US flag looked, more naturally rather than an over-the-top coloration. As for the "red crescent" beaming with color... it's no brighter than the red O in Google.

I would like to safely say it was a coincidence and everyone is trying to find a hidden meaning when in reality it was most likely someone's creativity that got overlooked.
