WTF is that "star" that is emitting orange, red, and blue near Orion's belt?
For those living on the East Coast, have you noticed at around 9:15 PM (seen best at this time), there is a strange star which seems too far that emits three different colors? Red, orange, and blue. This star is straight left of Orion's belt. Any idea what it is?

I began noticing it about two weeks ago. I went out late last night and saw it as well.

It is Saturn's rings eminating if you are seeing what I have been. It's bright but it is flashing colors. almost like an LED Ambulance off in the distance if you look close.

I think he is referring to something different as I have seen the same thing for about 2 weeks now and it sure as hell ain't Saturn. It stands out instantly as the color is very different from all the other stars in the sky. It seems to be flashing and almost cycling between 3 colours (Red/Blue/White). Looks very artificial.

No, I've seen it off and on for about a year or so...it doesn't move in the sky. It is fairly bright. Not as bright as Venus, but bright...like a star in the Big Dipper.

But, it 'flashes' in different colors. Quick flashes...

I'm in Tennessee OP, I look for it tonight.

I saw it too some time, then disappeared.

First I thought it was Mars or Mercurious who have the colours, but when it disappears it must be something else.

I am near the Eastern shore and have recently noticed it. I lokk up at the stars every night and don't recall seeing this until about 2 weeks ago. At first I thought it was a plane or something.... Then I thought UFO... Lol... But it doesn't move and it definitly shows 3 colors blinking ... Red, blue, and white. My husband even made mention of it last night. It isn't like anything I have seen before!

This.

clappa

Sirius is just off to the lower left of the belt (following the diagonal line of the belt to the left). I doubt the OP is referring to Betelgeuse as it is itself part of the Orion constellation.

No one has ever seen a perfect circle, nor a perfectly straight line, yet everyone knows what a circle and a straight line are.
Perceived circles or lines are not exactly circular or straight, and true circles and lines could never be detected since by definition they are sets of infinitely small points.

It's the contrails of a passenger jet. These sometimes create optical illusions such as missiles and yes stars.

It's the bright star Sirius, an the colors are diffraction from turbulent atmosphere at altitude. When it's down low, its more pronounced since the light has to go through more air than later in the evening when it's higher up.
