OMG...
My father who is as straight as an arrow asked me if I'd ever seen the shadow man with the hat on in the edge of my vision.

This coming from my dad is like Nancy Pelosi joining the GOP.

Okay, I just got chills. About 20 years ago I saw a black shadow of a man in a suit and hat when I was lying in bed. It appeared out of no where and seemed to walk toward the bed. Then I shouted out in fear and it instantly disappeared. This is a shared phenomenon?

I have experienced the same thing a few years back. Waking up paralyzed in bed with a shadow entity standing at the end of my bed observing me and wearing a hat and a jacket or trench coat.

Happens to quite a number of people apparently. The theories of what this entity is can be very creepy.

What are some of the theories regarding HatMan, OP?

Fascinating thread. I've a friend who was plagued by what he called "The Chin Monster" as a kid...little man with long chin ala Mr. Punch...the thing would jump onto his shoulder and pound the back of his head with the long chin.

He said one day another kid in his school, whom he hadn't mentioned The Chin Monster to previously told of the same experience --they became good friend on account of this shared wierdness.

Re: Has anyone ever experienced the "Hat Man"?
Not me personally but my grandmother saw a man in like a top hat at the edge of her bed...she woke up because she said she had a bad dream of some sort of shadow man watching her...following her...she woke up and there he was. Right away she noticed his hat... She said she was terrified. She said a prayer to Saint Michael and he went away. I believed her...she was not one to lie about such things...

No problem. I'm glad other people can also say what they have gone through because it is a very real phenomenon that people (me included) have experienced.

Re: Has anyone ever experienced the "Hat Man"?
This was in a GLP thread a couple of weeks ago:
====================================================================

I saw a ghost 2 nights ago and tried to grab it before it disappeared... anyone else have this experience???

I have seen various figures in my room over the past few months (five or six) and they are always standing by my bed but not in the same place.

Two nights ago it was a woman dressed in white and her body was bent at the waist leaning over me with her arms outstrecthed across my stomach. I was asleep but woke for some reason to see this.

I sat bolt upright and said "what the.." and tried to grab her. Then she dissappeared.

It was not a dream.

I should have been scared but I was convinced it was a physical person.

Anyone have knowledge of anything like this?

====================================================================

kind of similar.

when i was a little girl around 7 or 8 years old. i had been trying to go to sleep but couldn't. all of a sudden i saw a shadow on the open door. all i could tell was it was a man with a wide brim hat and straight shoulders, almost blocky like. i wasn't scared like i should have been but i called to my mom and he left. i always thought it was my grandfather who passed away before i was born. i'm 51 now and still can't explain it. i am very intuitive if you know what i mean.

Re: Has anyone ever experienced the "Hat Man"?
About 20 years ago my 5-year-old daughter asked me one morning at breakfast "Mommy who is the man who walks up and down the hall at night?" I asked if she meant Daddy. She said "No, not Daddy. It's after you and Daddy go to bed. He is tall and wears a black cape and black hat."

Thank God we moved about a year later, and apparently the hat man didn't follow us.

I was 17 and woke up face down paralyzed. I didn't see the hatman with my eyes, but I did see him as plain as day (Its hard to describe).

That was the first time I was aware of such an entity. He looked exactly like how most other people have described him.

Re: Has anyone ever experienced the "Hat Man"?
I can't believe I'm actually responding to this. I have for some years been visited by some guy in what appears to be a London Fog overcoat and a black fedora. Now - this is not in "the physical." This occurs at the same time as the physical, just on another level of awareness.

He appears, (to me, at least), to be a man in his 60's. Squarish face - and ALWAYS with the hat.

I've had some serious interactions with this guy, (minds out of the gutter, please - these have to do with grief issues).

When these encounters started, they were very intense and emotional. Very negative. As the years went on, he began to distance himself little by little.

It used to be that I would catch him staring into my window. Nothing perverted, mind you. More as if to remind me of things I don't want to think about.

Now, I catch only glimpses of him. For instance, a couple of months ago, I went out onto my front porch to smoke, and I saw him standing at the corner of my street for just a few moments - again - like I was seeing two paralell realities. Noone else would see him - just me. Recently, I began documenting my experiences with him because I am trying to figure out just what the heck he is...

Before you go saying I'm crazy or psychotic.......please know that I don't talk of this with anyone. I've been wracking my brain trying to figure out if this guy is a product of my imagination or some demonic presence or what.

He is not a fearful person. More like someone with whom I have things in common. Not things that are pleasant, but that tie us somehow.

Ok. Social suicide complete. baffle

Re: Has anyone ever experienced the "Hat Man"?
It seems to be a shared phenomenon. There are plenty of stories on the internet to read though I personally have not experienced it.

It seems as though the cloak and hat are a disguise as this entity wishes not to be seen. It appears at night when we are dreaming. Perhaps it is observing, influencing, or feeding off our dreams. Or all three!

Re: Has anyone ever experienced the "Hat Man"?
My daughter Daisy, age 11, has been seeing him for a year and a half. Very tall, long coat/cape, and a hat - she calls him the "Black Shadow Man". How embarrassing is it that I own a new-age shop and just thought it was her imagination???!!! After she described him a few times, I asked her to draw a picture of him - brought this to someone I know, who told me it was an entity and there is alot written about it. Pictures on various sites were almost identical to hers.

He goes up and down our hall, he will look into her room and while he unnerves her, he does not terrify her or fill her with dread. He beelines for my husband, however and according to my daughter she has seen him standing next to his side of the bed. My husband is an alcoholic and this is, according to what I have read, not a good omen.

He has also shown up outside. In fact, the first time she saw him he came up the driveway and went between our two vehicles. Daisy was in the middle of the front yard and followed him - but he "disappeared" into a stone retaining wall. That's when she realized he wasn't a real person. And my husband will sneak drinks standing between our vehicles, thinking he is hidden. Hmmmmmmm ....

Very wierd. And how odd that he hasn't been around for months now -- but my husband has been binging, and Daisy saw him again last night. And now, here is mention on GLP. Please, share details those of you who have seen him - this is fascinating.
