Nationwide: Doctors Brace for Medicare Cuts
Doctors throughout the nation are bracing for Medicare pay cuts that could take effect if the lame duck Congress bogs down in partisan wrangling.

The scheduled cuts — the result of a failed system set up years ago to control costs — have raised alarms that real damage to Medicare could result if Congress does not act by Dec. 1. That’s when an initial 23 percent reduction would hit.
Neither Democrats nor newly empowered Republicans want the sudden cuts, but there’s no consensus on how to stave them off. The debate over high deficits complicates matters, since every penny going to make doctors whole will probably have to come from cuts elsewhere. A reprieve of a few months may be the likeliest outcome. That may not reassure doctors.

Medicare is already a joke. It pays like shit and to get reimbursed you have to jump through massive red tape. Just not worth it. Good luck but most Dr.'s I know are opting out.

You can expect very very long lines to see a doctor if you are on Medicare because VERY FEW DOCTORS WILL STICK AROUND FOR THIS SHIT. They will stop taking medicare and change their practice or quit all together.

And Wellmark wants to raise insurance rates.

My physical therapist told me the other day that the insurance companies are the ones who set the costs but yet when they pay out, they only pay a fraction of what the cost is while people who don't have health care have to pay full price.

Doctors were threatening to stop taking new Medicare patients if the cut went through, and experts warned that the situation would undermine the health care program for 46 million elderly and disabled. Health care for military service members, families and retirees also would be jeopardized because Tricare payments are tied to Medicare's.

TPTB are pushing the people to the precipice. The question is whether or not the people will change...i.e. wake-up, stand-up and speak-up in a unified way.

I so agree OP.

I don't know the figures. I need to do research. I know this cut coming in December is only the first of several and it is a whopper at 23%.

Do you know the other cut% and timeline?

My parents are on Medicare and I myself am on Tricare, so you better bet I am going to start researching this.

A small piece of an article with quotes from a doctor.

Please read the whole article.

"How can I continue to deliver the level of service that I deliver today, if the reimbursement is that drastically reduced?"

Under the Sustainable Growth Rate, Medicare is proposing that effective December 1st, a reduction of reimbursement to doctors and hospitals by 23%.

"I'll need to see more patients in order to make money to keep the lights on. If I have to see more patients, I'll have to give each patient less time," says Dr. Rose.

He says it also means it will be harder for patients to get an appointment with doctors who do elective procedures.

"You need a hip replacement, and the orthopedic surgeons says I do 3 medicare patients a week, I've got 10 lined up so it's going to be a month before I can take care of you."

Re: Nationwide: Doctors Brace for Medicare Cuts
So now, unless Congress acts, doctors are looking at a wage cut of 21% next year and 40% the year after.

OK, so if you all the sudden got notice that you had to take a 21% paycut this year for doing the same job followed by a 41% paycut the next year, well what would you do?
