| Chimpsta (OP) User ID: 1144664 11/14/2010 07:10 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | It looks kind of too new. In those days, dyes were not so bright, etc. I would question it's age. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1164211I'm not worried about the age, I know it's from the 1890's. Cool Chimp - Officially Launched 11/2/2010! [link to www.coolchimp.com] We have something for everyone. Perhaps, a museum can assist in your questions. If it is truly what it is, it is worth a lot of $ to collectors. New, especiallly. If it was calvary, wouldn't the enlisted soldier have to wear it for awhile during term of duty and it would get battle fatigued, faded, torn, etc.? |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1164211He served a few different times & this was towards the end when he was basically a prison guard. The only wear & tear that's really noticeable is on the shin guards. I do know for a fact that it's original. It was my great grandfathers and it has never left the family. My mother remembers it from her childhood as well has my grandparents. It was passed down to me and they kept it very protected. It was appraised in 1984 at $800-$1000 which also confirms it's real. Cool Chimp - Officially Launched 11/2/2010! Is it something that should be insured etc... Cool Chimp - Officially Launched 11/2/2010! [link to www.coolchimp.com] We have something for everyone. Glad you don't want to sell. I'd suggest loaning it to a local museum - they'll research it for you as well as preserve it. It'd be nice if your great grand children could look at it in 80 or so years. |

What is the value of a uniform like this that's in perfect condition? Quoting: ChimpstaIt has the jacket (all the buttons), pants, hat, and shin guards. [link to www.flickr.com] I would say that's correct. The only thing that I questioned is the size of the Sargent stripes. Others I have seen are larger. But, this does look like a dress type uniform from that era. The last time I saw a uniform's in this condition, it was estimated at $1500-$2500. I wish I had my grandfathers WW1 tanker uniform....he was in the very first tank corp. |

He was actually one of the guards who watched over Geronimo when he was captured. Cool Chimp - Officially Launched 11/2/2010! [link to www.coolchimp.com] We have something for everyone.
