Lame movie, germs. And in the movie, it happens so fast, its like they needed to end the film. There running from them, then the next thing is they are collapsing. Dumb movie save your money.

A classic ending by a classic writer. Mankind has survived amongst millions of other species of life by centuries of adaption. In this we have earned the right to exist. Put us in any other foreign environmennt and it may not take long for the same result. Much like the andromeda strain.

As for the movie it had it´s faults. I´d like to know how they had the only servicable car in an entire city which everyone else seemed to clear a path for.

The original was more believable.

with such advanced technology and the fact that they have been on the earth for a long time dont you think they could have scanned the atmosphere or something...kinda like that RED PLANET movie with Val Kilmer....all the tech to get there but none to scan the atmosphere for oxygen...its hilarious

Cruise talked to the mechanic, knew from where teh car was sitting that it had been fixed.

of course that wouldn´t have done the job,
but it served to further the plot.

the mechanic shows cruise the starter motor which is fried - cruise shouts "try the solenoids" to the mechanic , then as he walks past later on the mechanic tells him that it worked and the car was working

so cruise nicks his car

electronic ignitions would be destroyed in cars and trucks in new computerized cars, but also older cars.

EMF´s have been known to kill thingss "mundane" as toasters and coffee percolators. You must also keep in mind that older cars STILL have electronics.

A few examples of these are:

1) The ignition and spark timing controls. (Yes, distributors ARE electro-mechanical components.)

2) The on-board computers for the radio and climate control system.

3) Electro-mechanical cruise control systems, which are still used today.

In light of these facts, it´s not going to matter whether you drive a 50´s Chevy Bel Air or a 2002 Mercedes-Benz S600 with every gadget Stuttgart has to offer. You´re still not going anywhere after EMF´s kill the electronics. The only advantage you´re gaining is that you can fix most any problem yourself with a tool box and spare parts. Keep all spare parts in a FARADAY CAGES or box.

I have a bicycle for a mode of transportation too.

I don´t think it´s possible to give away any "spoilers" in regards to this one, unless you lived in your own little world or were a republican. But, I repeat myself.

I am amazed that so many people are unfamilar with the storyline of the War of the Worlds! You people didn´t know how it ends before you bought your ticket? You never saw the earlier version? A sci-fi classic? Tom Cruise was never supposed to kick alien ass in this movie.

Maybe the point of the movie is that Man was indeed powerless in the invasion. That it was "Mother" Nature that defended the Earth. You know, the same Mother Nature that we try to Manipulate, Desecrate, and Concrete. The Point is that the Mother Nature -that Man tries to control- defeats the invasion with it´s subtle complexity.

When Man is vanquished Nature saves the day.

I am not saying that this latest movie doesn´t have it´s flaws, but the ending isn´t one of them.



How about you pick up the book by the author H.G. Wells and read it.

O.K. so his motor was fixed and no one else in a whole city could do this. I still can´t get over the miraculous path cleared for him. Also the scene where they fight over the car. Where was anyone going in that mess anyhow. I can suspend belief just so far.

I still like in the original how the ships trinagulate and the military prepares. Also how the main charachter is a scientist who takes this avenue to try and figure out what to do.

Been awhile since I read TWOTW book. It was really good, and I think the pls who didn´t like the remake, didn´t either read the book, hear the radio show, or see the eariler HG wells movie.
