They don't have enough people to go around and see if everyone has tomato plants. Hell, the south alone, it would take thousands of people to regulate it. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1013442They will pay neighbors to snitch. There are are plenty who would. Remember Nazi Germany? As it is they have us so beaten and brainwashed with political correctness that we dare not let out of peep on how we feel about many issues. Our own kin visciously turn on us in many matters. There are likely half or more willing to turn in his neighbor for growing tomatoes or whatever and saving seeds. The commies in Russia forced all the independent farmers into collectives, resulting in some 6 million of them starving to death. This maybe what they have in mind for us. This bill would certainly have the ability to do that. It seems that they are tightening the screws. HOw long will we stand for this? I have written to both my congressman and my senator about this, as well as signing available petitions. I live in the South. I don't know ONE person..friend, family, co-worker that dosen't grow something. It's what we do. If you want to think that your neighbor will turn you over to the police and you will go to prison for growing a tomato plant...so be it. I don't. Let's not be hysterical and lose perspective. Think rationally and logically. |

The house was secluded, but the neighbors likely saw the lights and reported it. I have to wonder about such people. I wonder if they got paid and how much. I wonder if they really think they were doing a good thing. I would be so glad that they were growing weed and not doing some real crime. I really think that if Hitler had lived next door that I would likely never mention it to anyone. But that's a whole other matter. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1139886People need to contact their congressmen and senators. You must be living in LaLa land. Do you REALLY think that the SAME Congress that has shoved Obamacare and all of Obama's other totalitarian agenda is going to STOP him? We'll be lucky if they don't confiscate everything we own before January. |

Your neighbors might not smoke weed but they sure as hell gotta eat.....not the same thing. and they made having weed against the law...hows that working out? If it's one thing government does well it's create black markets....the only free markets that I can see. I think it's a bad timee to whack the hornets nest. |

Most of the time, it's what ELSE is in the bill that matters. I don't worry about someone telling me I can't have tomato plants...who's gonna stop me? Like I said, they don't have the resources to patrol millions of homes looking for contraban tomato plants. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1141935Think about how many new privatized prisons and guards would be required to handle the massive numbers of new contraband cases. They would run the printing presses night and day to get the resources to patrol millions of homes.... THE BASIS OF THE FUTURE ECONOMY. You're either a prison guard or a prisoner in the new Amerika. Yep. |

A few other things. It won't apply to "very small businesses" for 3 years after initial implementation. They plan to hire 5000 field agents. Here's the link to the version I read. That will bring about another revolution and it will involve shooting. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1166634I tend to agree with this. Some people whom I talk with have the attitude of "Oh, politics, if you don't like the guy just vote him out. Nothing has changed, nothing will change, it's all just a game, I don't pay much attention to all that." BUT - these same people have gardens from which they feed their families, chickens, maybe goats or a cow. When the SWAT team comes up their driveway they will FINALLY realize that perhaps they should have been paying attention instead of listening to NPR and patting themselves on the back for being so "non-involved". |

In canada it's just unfathomable the govt. could tell you that you can't save your own seeds and your garden is under their authority. YOUR COUNTRY IS LOST but hey, please don't come up here we don't want people like you who would allow tyranny to go THAT FAR! Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1141935Senate Bill S 510 Food Safety Modernization Act vote imminent: Would outlaw gardening and saving seeds Senate Bill 510, the Food Safety Modernization Act, has been called "the most dangerous bill in the history of the United States of America." It would grant the U.S. government new authority over the public's right to grow, trade and transport any foods. This would give Big brother the power to regulate the tomato plants in your backyard. It would grant them the power to arrest and imprison people selling cucumbers at farmer's markets. It would criminalize the transporting of organic produce if you don't comply with the authoritarian rules of the federal government. "It will become the most offensive authority against the cultivation, trade and consumption of food and agricultural products of one's choice. It will be unconstitutional and contrary to natural law or, if you like, the will of God." - Dr. Shiv Chopra, Canada Health whistleblower ( [link to shivchopra.com] This tyrannical law puts all food production (yes, even food produced in your own garden) under the authority of the Department of Homeland Security. Yep -- the very same people running the TSA and its naked body scanner / passenger groping programs. This law would also give the U.S. government the power to arrest any backyard food producer as a felon (a "smuggler") for merely growing lettuce and selling it at a local farmer's market. For the rest: [link to www.naturalnews.com] However, they have been spraying all of us with aluminum, barium and strothium for over a decade now and, according to labs testing soil, water, air, there is an astronomical amount (toxic levels) of aluminum etc. in samples of each. Aluminum in the water we drink, the air we breathe, the soil in which we try to grow our food. See: "What in the world are they spraying?" See it and weep. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1141935Yeah, we're much less complacent than you all (even tho we do have our share of tyranny, I can tell you right now this bill would never get on the table in Canada). We still have more sanity than the US ever will. And we're not armed to the teeth like murikans, they who keep hollering how they've "got guns!" "got guns!" "got guns!" yet keep taking it with a smile. |
