So, i just want to understand.
The speech that you heard, it was playing over a warning tone? Or it came after?
Was there an announcement that this is only a test?
I am in Central Calif and we didn't get the alert, too bad too, I would have had it recorded. Maybe it will happen again.
Is today's date relevant to the quote by chance?
Well what made me pay attention to it was that the warning came on but without the beeps. Just a frozen screen saying this is a test of the emergency broadcast system, or something to that effect. I was like "ok, wheres the beepy noise"?
Then COPS tv show came back on and then the beeping started. Then stopped. And then the quote was being spoken over the tv show.
Quoting: gurunadeWow, definitely a message to the elite IMO. So it was this long version of his quote that you heard?. . . . This is what I heard. "To say that we are closer to victory today is to believe, in the face of the evidence, the optimists who have been wrong in the past. To suggest we are on the edge of defeat is to yield to unreasonable pessimism. To say that we are mired in stalemate seems the only realistic, yet unsatisfactory, conclusion. On the off chance that military and political analysts are right, in the next few months we must test the enemy's intentions, in case this is indeed his last big gasp before negotiations. But it is increasingly clear to this reporter that the only rational way out then will be to negotiate, not as victors, but as an honorable people who lived up to their pledge to defend democracy, and did the best they could. This is Walter Cronkite. Good night." [ link to facultystaff.richmond.edu (secure)] Quoting: gurunade
