to call a soul pure is to call a coca cola pure, or a piece of kentucky fried chicken breast pure, or to call a biscuit pure, or the mashed potatoes and thick, rich gravy that sits next to it pure.
A soul is not something that can be washed clean or bleached. Now, I agree, your metaphorical heart can be made metaphorically clean and shame-free, for a while.
But pure? A pure heart would be boring and lifeless and mistake-free.
We need mistakes and struggles and moments of shame, it makes life colorful. I don't want to live in a world where there are no colors or shades of grey. Dualities are an illusion of the young mind.

Shame and grace may be one such duality for young mind to ponder. However, of late, I am more consumed with another duality: Cruelty and Kindness. I have become more aware that cruelty serves a purpose (for young minds maybe), it is 'the stick' that hold together society, while kindness is the carrot. This may seem obvious to most, but to an outsider like myself, it is a revelation.
