If their masses figure out they have been lied to for so long, starved for no reason, prisoned for no reason, then NK government has a very serious problem. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1174204[link to www.spacedaily.com] With an array of artillery trained on Seoul, North Korea could easily blast the glass towers of the South's booming capital for days and kill huge numbers of civilians before US and South Korean forces prevailed, experts said. "Official Pentagon models assume it would take months to win the war at a cost approaching one million casualties or more, all told, including dead and wounded," Michael O'Hanlon, a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution, told AFP. "And that's without nuclear weapons being used," said O'Hanlon, who wrote a book looking at the effects of a potential war. Or China entering the war.... they need to change " Months " to years as they said the same thing about Iraq and we are still getting our asses kicked by cave dwellers. Which is when we basically fell back to the original line (the 38th parallel). It wasn't time then (in the eyes of TPTB) to take China. |

He barely made it. He said it was Chinese troops that they were fighting in that battle. He was operating a quad 50 cal and said that it was like pissed off ants coming out of an ant hill. They would put out everything they had onto the field of fire and kill thousands and they would just keep coming. He is now 80 and really worried about this...he said fighting the Chinese would be a bad idea since they would just send millions of soldiers at us with no worry about causalties or losses. Exactly a lot don't know that part of the war, The Chinese when they came in pushed the US and SK to way south past Seoul. But with MacArthur's push and some good ole American resolve, pushed them back past the 38th and beyond. If it wasn't for his firing who knows where we would be right now. But he did kick both of their asses back up North. A Fact. [link to www.spartacus.schoolnet.co.uk] On the outbreak of the Korean War in 1950, MacArthur was appointed commander of the United Nations forces. The surprise character of the attack enabled the North Koreans to occupy all the South, except for the area around the port of Pusan. On 15th September, 1950, MacArthur landed American and South Korean marines at Inchon, 200 miles behind the North Korean lines. The following day he launched a counterattack on the North Koreans. When they retreated, MacArthur's forces carried the war northwards, reaching the Yalu River, the frontier between Korea and China on 24th October, 1950. Harry S. Truman and Dean Acheson, the Secretary of State, told MacArthur to limit the war to Korea. MacArthur disagreed, favoring an attack on Chinese forces. Unwilling to accept the views of Truman and Acheson, MacArthur began to make inflammatory statements indicating his disagreements with the United States government. MacArthur gained support from right-wing members of the Senate such as Joe McCarthy who led the attack on Truman's administration: "With half a million Communists in Korea killing American men, Acheson says, 'Now let's be calm, let's do nothing'. It is like advising a man whose family is being killed not to take hasty action for fear he might alienate the affection of the murders." In April 1951, Harry S. Truman removed MacArthur from his command of the United Nations forces in Korea. McCarthy now called for Truman to be impeached and suggested that the president was drunk when he made the decision to fire MacArthur: "Truman is surrounded by the Jessups, the Achesons, the old Hiss crowd. Most of the tragic things are done at 1.30 and 2 o'clock in the morning when they've had time to get the President cheerful." |
