Re: Say bye to Employer Funded health Insurance
GOOD. Employer funded health insurance is WHY health care is so expensive now. You do realize that nobody had employer funded health insurance until afte WWII, right? After the way the gov slapped a salary freeze on companies and the only way employers could stand out and attract new employees was to offer "fringe benefits" aka health insurance. Fast forward 60+ years and its damn near impossible to get health insurance if you DONT have it through an employer. This is caused so many people to "work for the man" rather than being self employed. Im self employed and went through the same bullshit when I got a divorce and lost health insurance that was under my spouses employer. I have never had anything major wrong with me and I was told by underwriters from several different insurance companies that i would be denied regardless for ALL coverage, not just have a rider written for the minor issue that Ive had, and my best bet was to get a job that offered benefits. Fuck that.

The reason that employer sponsered benefits have driven up the price of health care is because doctors bill insurance what the insurance is willing to pay rather than have a set price for their services. If EVERYBODY employer sponsored health insurance went away then doctors would have no choice but to take whatever people were willing to pay for their services or go out of business. The free market would set prices unlike now. The only thing anybody really needs health insurance for is

for major shit like hospital stays. YOu dont expect your car insurance to pay for your oil changes so why the fuck should health insurance pay for your annual physical or your offfice visit when you get strep throat?

Spot on! Bravo!

You can die from untreated Strep.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 616779

Who said anything about leaving it untreated? If nobody had health insurance then doctors would be forced to treat people for what they were willing to pay or they would go out of business. Costs would come down under these circumstances for people who actually pay their own way in life but they would go up for people who sit on their asses and freeload and contribute nothing ie folks who dont pay a dime for health care now because they qualify for free health care thanks to the taxpayers.

This is the biggest load of horseshit I have ever seen. This is one step removed from poor houses and leaving people on the curb to die because they can't afford antibiotics for something trivial like bronchitis.

No, its one step to taking control away from the nanny state and forcing people to be responsible for their own life style choices.

And antibotics are not expensive. I bought a 30 day supply tonight at Randalls for $17.99 and that was WITHOUT insurance.

But...but...but I thought everybody was bitching that employer-sponsored healthcare would destroy business? It would actually...small, competitive businesses....not giant conglomerate mega-corporations, that own half the country's wealth, and build bombs and jets and machineguns for the government, and get gracious discounts like a nickle on the dollar for employee health insurance, to promote a sizable slave workforce, that will keep their mouths shut and do what they are told so their kids can get healthcare.

Get diagnosed with a chronic illness that requires frequent doctor visits, lab work, and treatments that allow you to stay upright and productive...then tell me if you feel the same way.
 Quoting: acadian

If there was no employer funded health insurance YOU could still purchase your policy to cover YOUR condition on the private market. Why should everybody else pay for YOUR condition though? If nobody had employer funded health insurance prices would have to come down (if they didnt big pharma and doctors would go out of business) and insurance comapnies would have to accept people with chonic conditions on private plans because there would be nobody else but people with issues like chronic conditions seeking out their services. They would eithe have to adjust their business model and cover those that they now have the luxury of refusing OR they would go belly up. Either way prices would come down for you and everybody else.

What kind of chronic condition do you have? Why do you have it? What can YOU do without big pharma to change it?

Finally the end of the gravy train. For the longest time, people have viewed federal employment as the ultimate gravy train. You can be a lazy, un-professional, tax sucking malcontent and still get more than 40% to 50% what the average joe earns in the private sector. NO MORE GRAVY TRAIN. Government should reduce its size. Government employment is like the old Soviet system where in there was little to no private industry and government was the only source of employment.

Can't they get help with student loans if they go into primary care and work in city clinics, or things like that? Please provide evidence that doctors are broke; I don't believe it.

Who "helps" doctors with their student loans? The gov? Where does the gov get its money? Why from taxpayers of course so its taxpayers that "help" people when they get something for nothing or get their student loans forgiven.

If everybody is also in constant need of health care then real question is WHY? Figure out the why and deal with it and need the for constant health care goes away. Of course shit is going to happen (chopped up finger, car wreck, etc) and at some point everybody will need to be treated for something but to be treated all the time for something means that there is a deeper issue that needs to be resolved.

They don't need to cut tax breaks for employer health care. Just ending a couple of our illegal preemptive wars would save a ton of money.

Why not just end forced taxation and call it a day? Then every single problem this country has would instantly reslove itself since the money supply would be cut off to the few in power who keep the shit stirred up. Without stolen money they would be powerless.

While I beg to differ, people who dont pay for shit do go to the ER for frivolous reason since by law they cant be turned away, that wasnt my point in the comment you quoted.

My point was WHY are people in need of constant health care? Always being sick is not the way humans were intended to exist. What is making them sick? Is it the crap in their food or their unhealthy lifestyle choices or what? You need to get to the root of what is causing so many people to be in constant need of health care since chronic illness its not the natural state of being.

saw that shit today on the news and thought oh yeah it's coming and they are coming for 401 k's too

it is on now

but does anyone care?

unless you are a tin capped tooth illegal anchor baby or some sort of welfare case say goodbye to any sort of insurance

so the premise is for americans to really feel healthcare costs?

shrink the government and also mandate that congress, house and all those 'serving' the american people get the same coverage..

Much agreed. I bet if they had to have the same insurance we would not be having this converstion. Their looking for anyway to screw us and I think the republicans will take the lead on this shit unfortunately.

May the Great Spirit Bless you
