Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 1174747 United States 11/30/2010 01:39 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | STUDENTS are ineligible!...been that way all along! nothing new Quoting: Anonymous Coward 430043No, that is not true. In my state, students have to work 20 hours a week or more OR have a work-study job. If they have a work-study job they qualify for the full amount of food stamps even if they don't work 20 hours a week. So the process is Working for food stamps?, why would a young guy work for food stamps?. If he can more then likely at that age work find a job and get real money, probably more money then whatever amount he would get in food stamps. |

If someone told her otherwise they were yanking their chain. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1127821They said he needs to have both, a job and full time college to be eligible He is not eligible because technically he is her dependent. His financial aid status is most likely as a dependent student. Well, then she should put him on her case then...in her household. Or tell him to get a work study job where he only works one day a week and then he will get the food stamps. Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 1174747 United States 11/30/2010 01:44 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Here are the rules for students: Quoting: SynchronicityThere are special rules that apply to college students who between 8 and 50 years old. A student who is attending college part- or full-time must meet specific rules to be eligible for SNAP/Food Stamps: If you are 18-49, and meet one of the following: * Get federal or state work-study monies, or * Work 20 hours or more per week, or * Have a child under the age of 12 in the home (further rules apply), or * Take part in an education or job training program operated by the government, or * Are disabled and receive a disability based benefit. [link to www.masslegalhelp.org] This means he would need a job + work for the government as he goes to college, in order to receive food stamps, that sounds like something a youngster would not want to do just for food stamps. |

Tatsuya User ID: 986624 United States 11/30/2010 01:48 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Food stamp requirements vary depending on the state, in florida for example, your eligible if you have a income below a certain bracket, if you don't have a job you must do a very small amount of work (usually community service oriented) though, unless you had health problems of course. At least that's the way it worked last i checked. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 430043Not true, I had food stamps all seven years of college. I had food stamps when I was in college too, but someone in my family was disabled. Actually in Ohio they have something written in where if you have one family member on disability the spouse doesn't have to work because the disabled needs care. (Seriously, before we had our children I didn't have to work cause my hubby is disabled.) They may have changed it through. I'm sure there are some honest folks who will be devestated by this but they have only the lazy asses to blame for overloading the sysytem. We're broke people this shit can't last much longer the free lunch train has jumped the track. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1137559That will never happen, USA would crumble with riots since the chances of getting a job are not that great these days. which means many more people are entering for food stamp support. Seems like the future could be either die of hunger or work for the HRA for the food stamps support until you can get yourself out of it by finding a real job in between all that. |

Supposedly now if you're a son or relative of a person in food stamp program then other things apply, unless you have a job( part time/full, it must be 20 hours atleast) you do not get food stamps support. Does that make any sense?, why would you need food stamps support if you got a job?, isn't food stamps for people who do not have a job and need food to live?. Try living on min wage and then asking the question. With the food "safety" bill [its always for our safety...] food prices are going to skyrocket. Good luck affording food on min wage. |
