Until they give it up....there will be no new unemployment bennies. :honesty: And people don't think extending benefits is part of a stimulus plan? Seriously. Guess how many people will not be able to pay their mortgage and utility bills. How about the grocery stores? You don't think the money that goes to unemployment extentions is stimulus related. Wait and see how things fall apart now. We are talking everyday companies being affected....your electric companies, phone companies, major stores that sell food and inexpensive items that are necessities. Soon they will be laying off too (or even more). This simply compounds the unemployment problems and will create more issues. And what about the banks and landlords? I think the banks are in big enough trouble already. Wait until that UEC money no longer flows through their banks or pays the mortgage. Every state has an employment service tied to their state. They do not do jack to seriously help the unemployed. My husband signed up for the services last year and it took them a month just to call him and set up an appointment. Then it took them 8 weeks to get him an appointment for testing. When he went for the tests there were 5 out of 10 computers for testing with empty seats - explain that? He had a job by the time they were ready to see him after the testing. What a crock of BS. |

Reed objected to his proposal saying "if you burrow down into those funds, they are from a category of programs that could be spent to help the economy move forward." Quoting: susanoYeah..how's that working right now The time used to work on the food safety bill could've been used on looking for a way to extend unemployment benefits, Brown argued. "I'm not sure why it took so long to get to his point while we spent seven days on food safety," he said. "I'm very, very curious to see what's next." ... A recent Labor Department report shows that for every dollar spent on unemployment insurance, two dollars are reinvested into the economy. ****************** The Democraps priority was controlling our food supply. When it cam to unemployment, they steadfastly refused to use left over stimulus funds or to take something else out of the budget. The Dept of Labor idiocy shows you the absolute nonsense they try to peddle. One $ in via unmeployement, two $$ magically appear!!! Republicans didn't want to see people thrown off unemployment benefits. They wanted it kept with the damn budget. Democrats are responsible for this. These assholes have given us the highest deficits and debt this country has EVER seen and they still refuse to cap their spending. Terrible days ahead for those whose checks will run out. Another country run into the ground by banksters. Great Post. Couldn't have said it better myself! |

How funny is this? "Hey Hon good thing we make over $250,000 this year, cause the tax cuts went through! That number will increase to 2 million by the end of December. Yup. It spells absolute disaster. Even for the few who find jobs, the lag in time that it will take to get a paycheck will cause them to miss house payments. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 1180041 United States 11/30/2010 09:11 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | so here is the truth. For years employers have been paying fed unemployment. It is for this purpose. We also pay it to the state. The feds are legally obligated to extend this. There is no bylaw in fed unemployment with a time limitations. Once again the fed is raidng this fund gor other obligations. Wake up sheeple they must extend the benefits and pay the states. Time to battle |

All this bill will do is allow the people who have not claimed for less than 6 months be able to get to the other tiers. Meaning that a person that has been on unemployment for only lets say 2 weeks will not get any money after Dec. 4th. The Dream Tier will most likely not happen and time soon. If at all. Thats the bill that will extend on to the 99 weeks. Explain that again, please. Are you saying that anyone who has been on (state) unemployment for less than six months will not be eligable for the extension, but those who have have been on for six or longer will? Also, isn't there a federal extension, in all states for 26 weeks, and the 99ers are only a few states? |

Texas Uncensored User ID: 1179839 United States 11/30/2010 09:15 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | My husband has been out of work for more than a year. We are really worried after his continual efforts to find a job. Houston is supposed to be a good job market compared to most, but I can tell you that it is bad. There are few jobs listed. Thousands of applicants for each one. Most resumes end up in the garbage. Job seminars are just as bad with lines curving around the buildings. He gets in the phone book after emailing and faxing resumes. Most places listing jobs won't give a phone number or address, taking resumes by internet only. He has not had one interview. Not one. No callbacks at all. The seminars may have a few jobs, but for the most part they take resumes, give the standard "we'll call you", and then I'm guessing they trash the majority of the resumes. I look at the cars parked at the apartments during the day, and most of them were there at night also. It's much worse than is being reported. It looks like half or more of the people who live here in a nice neighborhood are without jobs. If UE isn't extended, it's all going to hell faster than it is now. Fewer people buying groceries and neccesities means less employment, less spending, creating more unemployement, and less spending. Pretty soon, you who haven't been hit yet and who want to see these benefits cut will find yourselves standing in the unemployment lines too. You will be the ones at the back of the line.
