My husband has been out of work for more than a year. We are really worried after his continual efforts to find a job. Houston is supposed to be a good job market compared to most, but I can tell you that it is bad.

There are few jobs listed. Thousands of applicants for each one. Most resumes end up in the garbage. Job seminars are just as bad with lines curving around the buildings.

He gets in the phone book after emailing and faxing resumes. Most places listing jobs won't give a phone number or address, taking resumes by internet only. He has not had one interview. Not one. No callbacks at all.
The seminars may have a few jobs, but for the most part they take resumes, give the standard "we'll call you", and then I'm guessing they trash the majority of the resumes.

I look at the cars parked at the apartments during the day, and most of them were there at night also. It's much worse than is being reported. It looks like half or more of the people who live here in a nice neighborhood are without jobs.

If UE isn't extended, it's all going to hell faster than it is now. Fewer people buying groceries and neccesities means less employment, less spending, creating more unemployement, and less spending. Pretty soon, you who haven't been hit yet and who want to see these benefits cut will find yourselves standing in the unemployment lines too. You will be the ones at the back of the line.
