Hitchens and Harris criticize Islam pretty much constantly. The thing is most people in the West don't like Islam that much anyway so Western atheists don't really need to spend a lot of time going after it. Christianity is more well regarded, and criticizing it provokes more debate because it's a lot closer to home for most people.

In college, I attended meetings of the local atheist group.

So I asked... "If we don't believe in something, why are we meeting to discuss our collective non-belief". The response was that we were "raising awareness." I told them, it seemed more like a church that a awareness raising...

I was asked not to return, told I was a christian plant, etc, etc...

Sadly, not the case... for the most part, most Christians see it as a moral justification to be VOCALLY judgmental. Remember, religion is just a way of controlling belief... so if you already believe you're morally superior, your religion is your means to justify that position.

Atheists in the west primarily criticize Christians because it's primarily Christians who lobby to alter laws to reflect their religious beliefs... gay marriage etc.

Basically forcing non believers to live by laws derived from religious doctrines.

Christianity is the loudest and most widespread of the Abrahamic religions, it is like the ambassador.

Also, a lot of atheist arguments apply equally to all Abrahamic religions if not to religion as a whole. Dawkins for instance spends a lot of time talking about how the God of the Old Testament is essentially history's biggest bastard asshole - that's a criticism of Islam and Judaism as much as it is a criticism of Christianity.

Atheist's or what I like to call "the new church of scientology" are actually too afraid to take that next leap. You see they still hold on to a little bit of that "what if" Someone who really does not believe in the spiritual world (God, etc.)is called a Nihilist. The only publications I've seen in this country that have reproduced the controversial Muslim/Mohammed editorial cartoons are all producted by atheists.
