By circumventing these mechanisms, humans have entered a literal no-man's land...a place where we do not belong. However, I think that no matter how clever we think we are, nature will win in the end. We do not understand the long term repercussions of our actions. We look for immediate cause-and-effect relationships. We cannot see the domino effects we set in motion that take years or centuries to unfold. In the end, we could end up more screwed by choosing to avert viruses/bacteria than if we had just let nature do her thing to begin with. So clever we are...but not very wise. Disclaimer: I have been vaccinated but I can still question the wisdom of that. |
