We could have had Ron Paul,
but all you party people who can't
vote without the jackass or the elephant
pic won out.

Nobody won today, except small business
and small business will squeak through
another year, if marketing strategies are
very, very good, and tax attorneys are
very, very smart.

Hopefully the rabid left with eat their
own for handing money candy to the rich
today.

"uncle ben bernanke says we can print all the money we want, so fuck it...lets keep spending!!!"

--------------------------------
Exactly right. When you are in this deep debt, you might as well just spend. The result is higher inflation, as you well know. Seriously, don't whine about paying the unemployment.

This is going to totally screw with the Republicans. Obama just superseded their plan. Historically, it takes about two years for an influx of money to hit the economy. So, the money from the stimulus two years ago will start to be felt. Republican's obviously attempted to claim it was the tax cuts for the wealthy which is ridiculous. Now, Obama can say, it was the tax cuts for the middle class that did it all.

Good job Obama!!!

The debt is meaningless -- it will never be paid anyhow. China stops buying the debt... so we will buy our own debt. Go Bernanke! It is so stupid, it might work.

I agree with the extend unemployment benefits part. If there are no jobs then there are no jobs. Are people supposed to force employers to hire them?

I think there are other places where they can cut spending. Like foreign aid, for example.

he caves in and allows the GOP to hijack a tax cut for wealthy people, and he is still the villain in their eyes...

Im confused what this unemployment extension means? It doesn't state which programs have been extended.

I didn't get 99 weeks and I went through the full unemployment, all 4 EUC tiers and EB which ran out on Dec 2nd. So did he extend the regular benefits, or did they just extend the existing programs. I don't think this extension is going to apply for me but was wondering if anyone can clarify.

and yes I am looking for work
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1011494

Well it will be hard to say until a bill is finalized and actually passes.

What Obama talked about would be extended the federal benefits. That would be the programs in place before the expired on Nov. 30. The tiers you are able to get depends on your states % level of unemployment. After all the tiers based on that there is the federal "extended benefits" which is an additional 20 weeks you can get at the end of the tiers - again, only if your state is over a certain % unemployment (at least that's how it works in Texas).

Basically if you exhausted all the benefits you had before they were just cut off you will not be getting anything more. NOTE: This could change should they actually decide to do something different when the bill gets drafted. There is no telling what will happen, but I doubt they'd be adding any additional tiers.

Well here's what they do have, at least in Texas:
"TWC has launched a great new program called Texas Back to Work to help unemployment claimants find jobs. Employers may qualify for up to $2,000 in wage subsidies when they hire claimants who earned $15 an hour or less in their previous jobs."
[link to www.twc.state.tx.us]

Myself I just hope they pass the damn thing quick before I have to pay another months rent or who the hell knows what will happen. I already had to start putting bills on CC because I can't afford them all - and that's with my parents help... I have no idea how people with a family are actually even surviving. As I stated before - I get the max available unemployment for my state. I get about $400 worth of assistance from my parents ($315/month COBRA payment and whatever car insurance costs). Even with that I can't afford to make anything over minimum payments on my 2 credit cards - both of which are basically maxed and I went through what little savings I had. Honestly some of that was my fault in that I spent money on things I needed and a few things I wanted over the past year and a half that I probably could have put off or done cheaper. I just never EVER thought it would be this hard to find a job with a 4 year degree (Technology Management) and about 3 years of experience. I mean I thought low-end jobs were going away because of technology thus meaning there should be more technology-based jobs. Yet I can't get one. Too experienced for the low end and not enough experience for the upper-end.

I would have tried to go back to school if I had known things would be this bad - though it would have been tough to afford. Now I wish I could, but there is no way I could afford even a few simple certification classes.

And I'll say again for the people who think otherwise: I have been applying for low-end jobs inside and outside of my field. Jobs I should have been massively overqualified for to those under qualified for. Oddly enough I never got a single call back for those I was overqualified for, but DID receive a few for ones I was under qualified for - however that was the issue, I didn't know how to do the damn job and they weren't training.

The whole system is screwed and it's not getting any better despite what they are saying. Anyway, enough rambling from me... Good luck to all those out there looking for a job - unless of course you're applying for the same position as me. tounge

You know what's silly? The money needed to extend this unemployment benifits is trown at the stock market in the form of a POMO (Permanent Open Market Operation) every single day by the FED.
