As a result the political leadership was voted out and the chain of command drastically altered by the new, more hawkish, leadership.

The next NK provocation will not be handled like the last. The U.S. has lost it's grip on SK military responses. Response authority has been delegated all the way down to unit commanders.

This is what I think NK does not understand. A provocation now would immediately be returned without a call back to HQ.

So before the generals or politicians are even aware, a simple artillery exchange could have flared into something much larger as more and more local units return fire.

The Korean war is far closer to re-starting than anyone really realizes.
