When the nitration process of glycerin has been achieved the glycerin is said to be enriched with nitric acid and is now called Nitroglycerin. This solution is very explosive and unstable in liquid form. What the military has done is enrich the glycerin to the highest concentration and mixed the oily solution with fillers like Diatomaceous earth (Alfred Nobel) which now has become very stable, yellow in appearance, and needing a detonator to explode.
The process of enrichment is tediously slow because of the volatility involved when in liquid form. The process must be attained in small amounts at a time. This is why all the footage seen of these enrichment facilities are in fortified structures. Small amounts of this enriched yellow liquid solution is then mixed with the required amount of Diatomaceous earth and the yellow soft tenderflake is now stable. The yellow tenderflakes are layered together like a cake and compressed.

The nitration process can also enrich other natural earth elements given that glycerin is a natural by-product of soap-making (a fat) that when enriched into a diluted form of nitroglycerin becomes a heart medication and a cancer killer.
You can enrich Vitamins and Minerals using the original method of nitration discovered in the 1800's and cure a wide variety of ailments by restoring balance to the human organism.
