Computers are a bane on chess.

In the old days, there'd be adjournments, and the players would go home and analyze all night.

Today, no adjournments, because who's man enough to avoid the temptation to use Fritz???

It sucks.

And, it's apples and oranges.

Does anyone expect a man to outpull a diesel locomotive?

That's quite similiar to the "contest" between man and computer in chess.

A pox on computers! I hope the traditionalists will simply go underground and maintain traditional chess. Let the promoters have their day in the sun, trying to turn chess into a "sport" and let the computers play until the people using them are just their mindless cat's paws.

May beets grow in their bellies, God forbid!

Interestingly enough, they're using chess as a foundation to developing actual AI awareness. Not a lie.

I remember long ago when I could still beat a chess program. But now, they are so strong that even the world's best players can't get more than the occasional draw. It doesn't seem to be killing the game though. We don't expect human weightlifters to compete with forklifts and most chess players I know,(the traditionalists you speak of) adhere to that philosophy. The other players I don't really care to know or play against. As far as the idea of no adjournments in tournament games, it's something I've gotten used to. In all honesty I don't mind since it gets the games over with quicker.
Take care
