Vision Thing User ID: 1110850 United States 12/13/2010 02:10 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I love you! Later I will come back to this thread and tell my story how I saved a bat in the frigid mid winter on the snowy streets of Minneapolis. Right now I am trying to impose some self discipline and pry myself off the internet long enough to get some damn work done. Last Edited by Vision Thing on 12/13/2010 02:10 PM |

"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny exercised for the good of its own victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than omnipotent moral busy-bodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end, for they do so with the approval of their own conscience." -- C.S. I suppose some people might think I'm weird to save a bat, but they are actually very cute. You just have to be careful not to get bit! Does anybody have any idea why it might have been outside in the daylight in this cold? |

Wish you wouldn't have released it back into the cold however, as it's chances are slim to find it's way to safety in the daylight and cold. You could have actually befriended the animal and picked up a cage, or built a wooden box for it to reside in a small corner until spring for release(it's better chance). A few crickets each day(pet store) would have kept the animal throughout the winter and is cheap. Yes any wild animal could be harboring a disease that could be an issue, but much less than many would think. Bat's are one of the most spectacular creatures on this planet(only TRUE flying mammal we have now), and one of the best insect eaters. They eat their own body weight + in mosquitoes & other considered pests, each night, as their high metabolism burns up much during flight. Bats are also good pets for observing. Some even show they KNOW you after being cared for, and release. Theories: Misconceptions awaiting confirmation of incorrectness. Everything is subject to continually changing variables, leaving nothing to remain as a constant.]D)one!!!! :nfrnl1111: |

I was afraid for the bat though as I have a rescue cat who hates and will hurt other animals. She attacked my brother's boxer a few years ago. Gave him a nasty cut on the nose! She also tried to go after a 5 week old kitten I brought home last year. I brought the kitten home because I figured it was only five weeks and no threat to my cat, hence she would be okay with her. I had to return the kitten to the rescue shelter the next day, explaining that my cat would have hurt her had I kept her. I was worried that she would hurt the bat somehow, or even scare it to death. I really didn't know what to do. I sure hope it found a warmer place and it is okay. |

Quoting: czygynyPlease just remember that bats have an unusually high incidence of rabies, in the States. Always take great care in handling them. Yes, I didn't touch it, just gently moved it onto the dust pan with the broom. It was scared and showing its teeth, and I was afraid of getting bit. |

BRIEF AND TO THE POINT User ID: 381742 United States 12/13/2010 03:03 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I caught one in a five gallon bucket when I was a kid...I didn't want to touch it or take a chance on it getting caught in my hair (don't know why that was a fear) so I got out my bb gun and finished it... Poor people do poor people things, and rich people do rich people things. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friend, is the beginning of the end of any nation. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it! when you rob Paul to give to Peter ... ... ... you will always get Peters support! :Brieffromnativea: |

I don't know what I'd do, because they are a lot like mice which make me scream like a girl. You did good, OP.
